Dude! You Rock! I listened to "beer" and was impressed. Strong, full and dynamic arrangment. Solid vocals ( did you overdub on the chorus?) I couldn't hear a thing wrong with the mix. Kind reminded me of Popa Chubby. Gtreat tune and execution.
If ya want, check my first computer song ever at Acidplanet.com Search for Lee Davidson.

Thanks for sharing.

cheers :oP glad u like the tune! Yeah, there's loads of double tracking on the Vox... especially in the choruses. There are essentially three lead vox in the choruses. Two are panned left and right, and lowered right down in the mix. there's more reverb on the d.tracked vox :oP

NTK mics are fantastic. Just plug in and go! just make sure u sing into the side with the dot (duh), and use a pop shield for vox. I wanna get another one so I can have a stereo pair!

I use it on guitar amps, but mixed together with the output of a C3000 and an NT1 as well - very fat sounding.

Most stuff (except drums) is double tracked and panned to make everything seem very wide and real.

NTK knocked socks off the Neumann TLM 103 I borrowed, also knocks socks off a C414.

I'm only using it through my bog standard preamps on my Behringer MX8000 desk, and from there it goes straight into my Gadgetlabs Wave 8*24 soundcard.

I'm still recording at 16bit 44.1khz, tho I'll move up to 24bit 44.1 when I upgrade my computer.

I think I'm starting to like you as a musician. I listened to "something you say" and yes, it was pop/comercial/simple. But, enjoyable as well. The mix was kinda cloudy when things got going but I still found myself grabing the acoustic and trying to strum along. How are you creating the drum tracks? These are very solid.

something you say is by far the worst mix - I wasn't happy with the tracking! It was very much early days then!

Drum recording: -

the first thing you need is a good drummer, and then a good set of drums! That's a drum workshop kit you're listening to there. TAMA starclassic's are up there with them! It helps being a drummer.. you can tune kits and that kind of thing! I also often end up replacing cymbals with my own... I have my own TAMA kit in the studio all the time just in case theirs is not up to scratch.

Next thing is a good selection of microphones. I use (typically) 9 mikes on drums. Get familiar with the sound of them! Here's my setup:

Kick: AKG D12
Oversnare: Shure Beta 57
Undersnare: Shure 57
Toms: 58's or 57's and on big toms, beta 57's (extended bass)
overheads: RODE NTK + NT1, tho I'd like a pair of NTKS.
hihat: AKG C1000

All this is bussed through the Behringer MX8000 into my 8 channel Gadgetlabs Wave 8*24 soundcard.

Toms are pre-panned, so I can send 3 or four toms down a stereo bus.

Everything recorded into Vegas.

cheers again for enjoying it!
