Dual CPU Question

I'm about to add a second P3 1 gig to my system and I've got a question: What are the Vegas/SoundForge benefits? Will the second processor aid in disc access? Will it let me run more tracks? Will it let me run more effects? How about render times? Basically, I'm curious as to if I'm going to realize a huge performance gain. I'm running WIN 2000 with all drives NTFS, and my 2 30 gig Western Digital Audio drives are RAIDED in the 0 mode.

So far, I've been quite happy. My RAID benched higher than everything else using Sandra 2001 (I couldn't believe it!). Once the 2nd CPU is in place I'll run some serious stress tests with Vegas. I don't plan to run a ton of tracks at once on a regular basis, but I will use quite a few plug ins...and I've been working strictly in 24/96.

Have you run into a block and can't get over it? Are you just anticipating a need? If you're happy, stay happy. More on the question line, I've been lead to believe that your mobo is the first concideration in such an introduction as a second cpu.

My motherboard is an Abit VP6, which is dual processor ready. I plan to start video editing with my system soon, so I'll need all the power my system is capable. The price of P3's have dropped some much that dropping a second one in isn't too bad on the wallet. Since WIN 2K (and XP) specifically address the second CPU, I expect performance benefits. I'm currently running 768 megs of PC133 RAM, but my MB has 1 available slot. With RAM prices crashing, bumping that up may be next. The 512meg chips are starting to hit...and the prices are dropping. I'm just not sure if adding another 256-512 megs is going to make a big difference.

As single fast processor, a fast bus (like the 266mhz frontside in the AMDs) and lots of RAM is going to give you better rendering performance than a dual proc, slow bus, less ram.

search this forum on dual processors. there has been much discussion. I've posted some results using dual PIII 1GHz vs single...
