You're talking about the Video FX dialog window, not the Plug-in Chooser, right?

I'm having trouble visualizing what you're asking about. Can you post a screen shot and a link so that we can see what you're talking about? (or at least give us an example of an effect so we can look for it ourselves?)

They do mean something but I've forgotten what it is. For example, one color means multi-threaded while other colors might mean 32-bit vs 8-bit.

I tried copying and pasting the screenshot into this message but it wont work...I see others put screenshots into their posts all the time and when I try to do it, I copy the image but paste doesn't work.

See the forum markup sticky at the top of the forum for details on how to include links to images and other markup stuff. Basically, you need to have the image available on some server somewhere then include a link to the image here.
