I just purchased a Panasonic Lumix GH-1 DSLR camera that I have seen others use to create stunning video. Good example:

This camera can shoot either AVCHD video file (.mts) or motion JPEG (.mov). The MJPEG seem to always play back in both preview and on the timeline smoothly and without jumping, but the AVCHD files skip frames and rarely, if ever playback smoothly without jumping and skipping.
This wouldn't be a problem...just use the MJPEG format, right?...but the issue is the file size in this format is MUCH larger than the AVCHAD and the available time to record on a 32GB SD card is cut to 1/4 of the time with MJPEG vs AVCHD.
I swore that VMS HD 10 was setup to play AVCHD files smoothly. They were shot at 1280X720 @ 30fps vs full HD and they are still choppy when played back in VMS, even in PREVIEW mode.
I even wondered if it was my graphics card, so I called Nvidia and had them talk me through uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers to no avail - same playback quality. Tried converting the .mts files to m2t files using NewBlue's AVCHD Upshift - same issue with the m2t files.
Is there anything else I should be doing to get a smooth playback of the .mts files in VMS 10 HD?
System: Dell XPS 631i w dual core 32GHZ Intel processor
6 GB RAM
Windows XP OS SP 3
NVidia GeForce 8800GT video card running latest driver
Thanks!
