I'm sure there was a way to make Elastique a 'sticky' setting, but blowed if I can find it !

Or is that only in Acid ?

In Vegas:

Hold down Shift while selecting "Preferences" in Options Menu (this reveals 'secret' Internal preferences...)
Select the "Internal" TAB in Preferences window.
At bottom of window, in the 'Show only prefs containing:' area type 'timestretch' (without quotes).
You should just see 4 lines of internal preferences now.
Make the next four ones read:
Timestretch Quality = 1.00000000
Default Timestretch Method = 2
Default Timestretch Mode 1 = 2
Default Timestretch Mode 2 = 0

Possibly some of those already were set...... It's the last one which switches elastique to "Pro" when stretching event on timeline.

I really don't understand why SCS don't set this to the best quality by default when the application is installed.

these are the numbers i had been playing with, with out success

but i think it could be it does not change the existing project, only fresh ones

Yes, you must re-start Vegas for these settings to stick. Then they will apply to all new actions/edits in an existing veg.

Hi ChristoC,

I have set last parameter to 0 and now (after restar) PRO is default method if I select ELESTIQUE. But have played with other parameters and can't achieve that ELASTIQUE is default instead of NONE. Quality have set on 0.3 instead of 1.0 as in your example. Could you answer :

- which parameter should I change (and value) to set Elastique as default
- when quality elastique will be higher : if parameter QUALITY set to 1.0 or set to 0.0 ?

I have observed, that when elastique is applied to event, then some Audio FX don't work at all (visible in FX window but can't hear effect). Can anybody confirm or it's only in my setup ?

Best regards,

First of all, I'm just describing behaviour when Timestretch is applied to Audio clip on timeline by holding down Ctrl and moving either end of the clip, where a little 'percentage' display shows (assuming 'Active Take Information' is enabled in View menu), and then Right-Click on Audio, select 'Properties' gives a window with more information & settings; not when elastique is applied as a plugin on the clip or in Mixer.... I don't know what sets the defaults there.

Timestretch Quality = 1.00000000
- I have no idea what this does ??? setting there is what I found, and I don't remember changing it.....

Default Timestretch Method = 2
0 = Classic
1 = blank - don't do it, can make vegas crash
2 = Elastique
3 = None

Default Timestretch Mode 1 = 2
- change attributes when "Classic" method is selected in "Method"; have not bothered to map all this: e.g. 2 = A03,Music 3 (less echo).

Default Timestretch Mode 2 = 0
- sets Elastique quality:
0 = Pro
1 = Efficient
2 = Soloist(monophonic)
3 = Soloist(speech)

i am also referring to this method cristo, thanks for your help.

"Then they will apply to all new actions/edits in an existing veg."

i think the problem here is for me, it only applies to new projects, and won't change my existing ones except the 'pro' comes up as default when selecting elastique

Hi ChristoC,

Thanky you, I understand now : I was expecting, that when properties dialog will be opened ELASTIQUE will be proposed as default choice. It works only if before event was stretched with CTRL+mouse. If object is not stretched jet, properties dialog offers NONE as default ... and it's OK.

Interesting is what Timestretch Quality means ? Meybe PETER from SCS, will be able to answer for this question. I also did not change this value, default is in my setup : 0,30000001 and that's the value is set.

About problem with effects :

1) I have stretched event via CTRL+mouse (prior have to change method manually to elastique/pro)
2) applied audio event FX (simple effects as reverb, EQ and volume from Sony)
3) fx has declared himself properly, but there was no effect in sound
4) have to reload project
5) situation is comming back sometimes, can't find scheme to recreate.

Best regards,

imac:

as I stated, it will apply to new actions/edits in an existing project, as long as you have re-started Vegas; therefore will not change existing decisions in existing project..... it just changes the available Default settings.

RRA:
I was unconcerned about the Timestretch Quality entry as the parameter existed back in VP8 (and possibly earlier...), and assumed it has nothing to do with newly introduced Elastique, which is so bleedin' good there's no reason not to use it!

I have not (yet) experienced any problems as you describe with other plugins inserted in Event or Track whilst elastique is applied.

This is the best piece of information! Thanks for all this. I love the fact that I can now set it so that elastique/soloist is the default Great for time compression of dialog.

Thanks.

THANKS! I searched for this solution when I first upgraded to 10. Glad to finally know how to do this.

Anyone know how to change the default timestretch behavior to Classic A06?

Elastique sounds like garbage on minor changes. It does a better job on really major stretches and shrinks, but I'd rather default to classic A06.
