ProType Titler

I guess I'm one of those saps that has always used the basic insert text media.

I'm trying to learn the Protype UI. All seems pretty self explanitory, but one thing:

When I use a collection (flythrough or other), editing the text gets rid of the effect. If I click it, then go to edit text, and backspace or highlight "the brown fox" and start typing, the flythrough portion of the effect goes away. Does this on all the collections. What's up?

"All seems pretty self explanitory"Ha! You must have completely different brain wave paths than I do!!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's impossible to learn PTT without some type of tutorial/training. And everytime I think it makes sense, I leave it for a few days/weeks and forget everything I've learned.

Try this: ProType Titler Basics

Good Luck!

Actually, you are probably in the majority that stays away from the ProType Titler because it's quirky and not very well integrated into Vegas.

This is one of the quirks. Don't use Backspace! The animation effects are assigned to the first letter. You can highlight the text and start typing and you should still have the animation. Just don't backspace over the first letter or else you will loose the animation.

What a quirk. That was it. I can see that there are many things you couldn't do otherwise, but that its oddly laid out.

I've never taken a protype tutorial & I've got a pretty good grasp on it. It's pretty simple once you ignore the forum users opinions on it & sit & work with it for a couple hours.

You get used to it. Just takes some practice. It's got some nice things compared to Vegas & some real PITA part. But, imho, people spend months & lots of $$ learning something like AE or Boris & complain protype is a pain. Jumping blind in to AE or Boris is pretty stupid, protype is new just like those. Here's some protype collections for you to download & use:
here.

Down the page is a .veg file with some stuff that wouldn't work as a collection. For just some cool veg's you can also replace "vp8" with "vp9" & "vp10" for vegas specific veg's.

BTW, Protype collections are compatible with Vegas 8, 9 & 10. You can make one in 10 & it will work in 8 & vice-a-versa.

Happy, how do I APPLY an already created collection style TO an already typed-out piece of text?

Grazie

Can't, you need to insert the collection first & then modify the text.

I spent about 45 minutes trying to do that and finally gave up and just threw a transition on a basic title and moved on.

I think PTT probably has alot of potential, if I could just figure out how to use the dang thing efficiently. I wish there were more training tutorial on it. I have watched the one in the link above, but need more. I don't see much on youtube either.

JohnyRoy....maybe you would be interested in diving deeper in pro type titler for us and create a tutorial...? I would be mucho grateful!

I really like some of the things I can do with PTT but I find it non-intuitive enough that I have to spend time relearning it when I have been away from it for a while. I agree that it has a lot of potential and I would like to see SCS develop a PTT v 2 to address usability and integration with VP. As far as I know, there have been no improvements to it since its initial release.

For whatever the design reason was, IMO, PTT has not been created to share the VEGAS paradigms. If that IS the case, then PTT needs overhauling. We have a plethora of Plugs and Extensions that mostly work sharing the same Vegas GUI feature sets. PTT? It's all over the shop.

Bizarre…

Happyfriar, followed this path: "C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Sony\Titler 1.0\Collections" in Vista But in 'Titler 1.0' there is no folder called 'collections' . Just 2 xml files. config.xml and fontMRU.xml
I'm using Vista business 64 bit. Any ideas?

We (VASST) have already done that. The free preview is on YouTube:

The full training DVD by Douglas Spotted Eagle can be found on our web site:

Absolute Training for Vegas+DVD, Vol. 9 - Master the Pro Type Titler

The training DVD is fairly extensive and you will come away with a very good understanding of the ProType Titler.

re: Arthur. S:

Make a collection in ProType & save it (you can just add new text & save it). Then the folder "collections" will be made.
