That's because the WMV codec maps everything to 601 colorspace, not RGB. But if you like it because it matches the Vegas preview, have a blast.
Some of us like to use the video scopes to set the levels for rendering.
;?)

Thanks for answering, I'm here to learn, whhat do you use for rendering?

When I render my AVCHD videos for the web at 560x320 I use the following track FX chain:

(1) Sony sharpen set for 0.500
(2) Sony Levels set to Studio RGB to Computer RGB
(3) Sony Levels set to Studio RGB to Computer RGB

Notice that I am using the levels twice in order to get the black levels I want on the final render. If no levels the video looks foggy because the black levels are way off. If I use levels one time it is better but not quite enough. Using levels twice does the trick for me. The preview looks bad but the final render looks great! So much for using the scopes. :(

Render settings are:

Audio:
Mode:Quality VBR
Format: Windows Media Audio 9.2
Attributes: VBR Quality 90, 48 khz, stereo VBR

Video:
Mode: Bit rate VBR (Peak)
Format: Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile
Image size: custom 560x320
Frame rate: 29.970 (NTSC)
Averag bit rate: 500 k
Peak bit Rate: 2 M

Other settings default which is why I do not list them

I get excellent quality video and none of the head aches trying to find a compatible format.

The videos I upload are an average of from 90 minutes to a little more than two hours so I divide them up into 4 or 5 parts and zip them to only be downloaded.

Take a look at my most recent videos and you can see the quality they have.

Hope this helps.
