MPEG2 file - no audio plays

I'm trying to edit an MPEG-2 file. According to VideoLAN's VLC player, here are the streams:

(I had to screen capture the stream list)

I can import this media file into both Vegas Movie Studio HD and Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 (the former I've purchased, the latter is a trial version).

In both instances, I can see and play the video, but there is no audio playback. No audio tracks are created.

Can the two products I tried handle this streaming file? If not, what do I need to edit this file?

Thanks.

Does renaming the file extension to .vob let you open the video with audio in VMS?

Next easiest thing would be to download the Vegas Pro 10 trial version. It should load embedded AC3 without a problem.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried renaming the file to .vob extension, but still did not work.

Then I d/l'd Vegas Pro 10 trial version. That version loads up the file and plays it without any problem, both video and audio.

But, wow, $500 (upgrade pricing) just to get a working codec? I have to pass on that.

Thanks again for the assist.

There are other ways to do this.

1. Create a DVD folder using DVD Architect, and import it into Vegas; or,
2. If you are familiar with it, remux in AVIDemux.

Thanks for the pointer to AVIDemux, that looks like it may do what I need.

For closure of this thread - VMS 11 seems to handle the file without any issues.
