Subject:Acid Music Studio 8 Error (Help Me!)

I recently installed Acid Music Studio 8 on my Windows 7 computer and it worked fine the first time I ran it. Connected it to my midi controller and I was going through the tutorials. After I exited the program I decided to "torrent" download vst synth software to use in Acid. I downloaded one and installed it on my computer. I went to open Acid again and it just freezes on the splash screen which appears to try to load every .dll file on my computer. Then the error reporting window pops up and of course I send it. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I RUN THE PROGRAM. I can't get in it. Even when I delete it completely and reinstall it this error pops up. Here is what is reported below. PLEASE HELP ME.

"I have uninstalled the vst software that I downloaded as well.

djXS"

Apparently "sfvstserver.exe" scans your system for all VST related ".dll's" prior to opening your Sony software. If it finds a problematic ".dll", it might hang. (This is just a guess on my part).

The .dll for that VST could still be on your computer causing "sfvstserver.exe" to hang. Sometimes "Uninstall" programs don't clean out all the components of previously intalled software. You may have to manually remove it.

I can think of three places to look:

C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins

C:\Program Files\Vstplugins

C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplugins (e.g. if you have any Steinberg applications installed)

If you have other DAWs on your system, they may have separate VST folders as well.

One of the problems with peer-to-peer (bit torent) downloads is you never know what you're going to pick up along the way. You might want to scan your system for "malware/viruses" as well.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help. The only VST files that I have are the Korg M1 Le program and the two that came with studio 8. I uninstalled native instruments b4 vst synth software and I made sure that the .dll files were not in the c:/program files/vstplugins folder. I am still not able to get into the software. It still says its a sfvstserver.exe problem. How do I pinpoint the problematic .dll file so I can get rid of it?

"...How do I pinpoint the problematic .dll file so I can get rid of it?"

It should be associated with the name of that VST you downloaded from the torrent site. I would start by doing a search on that "name".
(Not an internet search but a search on all the drives on your computer).

I emailed technical support because I still can't get it to work. I have Native Instruments Xpress Keyboards and iZotrop iDrum installed and they work just fine on their own. I never tried using them in Acid because it stopped working before I had the opportunity to do so. Now with or without files for these vst's on my computer I'm getting the same error.

This is absolutely frustrating and now I'm pissed I spent the money on this.

I found the answer. I had to delete this xml file in the acid appdata folder.
