I assume you want to capture from analog video e.g. VHS or BetaSP?

The old ADVC 300 is still around and works with any OS.

What kind of camera? What format & medium does it record? How do you connect it to the computer? What is the "capture function on your camera" that you refer to?

Many camcorders use firewire. These don't require any video capture card at all. Direct firewire connection to a firewire port allows the VidCap programs included with Vegas to do a direct transfer from the camcorder to your hard drive without capturing.

Lots of newer HD camcorders record files on a memory card. These can usually be placed in a card reader slot and the files dragged to your hard drive. Once again no capturing required.

The media I'm capturing is VHS and DVR programs.

The camera is a Sony TRV840. I take the DV out via firewire to my PC

I have another capture card/tuner but there is no Win 7 driver for it and it's analog in only.

Thanks to all.

That D8 camcorder should continue to work as an A / D converter even if the transport dies. If not then the ADVC-300 gives you much the same functionality (DNR and TBC) as the D8 camcorder. No driver required. Sorry it is not what many would call cheap but mine has given nearly a decade of service so actually a bargain.

If you don't want the TBC and DNR then there's the cheaper boxes from Canopus such as the ADVC-110.

Thanks to all. The capture function of the camera seems to be on the fritz. I just bought a new ADVC-300 which should last me longer that the analog media that I want to capture will be around.

Love Forums!!!.

I'd love to pick one of those up used and cheap someday. I've got the Sony version of the ADVC-100 model. It's great, but no TBC. I've probably used it for over 3,000 hours of captures so far. When i'm not capturing it brings in A/V from the cable tuner and i watch TV through the VidCap preview window. It just sits there and works so well i can ignore it completely. Never a hitch. Not. Ever.
