If your considering buying one or the other, this article may (or may not) give you some additional food for thought.

Keep in mind that the 7D and 60D are first and fore most "photography" cameras and that is where some of the difference lies.

For example, the 7D has a faster FPS that the 60D.

I'll be using the camera primarly for photography purposes. But looking at the specs they are identical except for a few minor differences. However the price difference is a 1000 bucks.

I can't speak to specific differences, I expect the 60D to be taking a step backwards to a minor degree in build quality. A big advantage that the 7D will provide is anyone taking Sports or Action photos is its 8 fps capabilities. I believe the 60D is shy of 6.

7D also provides 100% coverage through the view finder, where the 60D is only 96%. I suppose the sensor is relatively the same, so what differences there are minor.

The 60D has the new flip out LCD, which I am not impressed with.

When looking at BandH the price difference is more around $600. If your shopping is based on budget then compare the Rebel 2Ti to the 60D. I'm expecting the a replacement for the 7D in not to far future.

Just my two cents,

In terms of video the 60d and 7d offer what looks to be the same specs and most likely performance.

The 7d on the other hand is definitely superior when it comes to stills. Focus micro-adjust and a better focus system along with faster speeds are a few of the enhancements that come to mind.

So if you are buying primarily for video go 60d. If top pro still features are a requirement then go for the 7d.

That's my take anyway.

I have a 7D and a 1000D as backup. For my work I find the quality of the lens is more important than the type of body. I'd be inclined to get the cheaper body and spend the difference on really good glass.

I just bought a 60D for both stills and video. Here in Toronto, Canada, I was able to find the 60D on sale for $1,030, so the price was just too good to turn down.

Video-wise these two cameras are essentially the same, with the 60D having manual audio controls which the 7D still does not have.

For still photography, the 7D is a faster camera, which could be useful if you are shooting sports or any other high-speed events.

Originally I was planning on buying the 7D, but I could not justify spending the extra money for it.
