Pencil illustration with tweening veg

Rory Cooper wrote on 7/15/2010, 1:11 AM
Iv’e worked on this Veg file to create a Pencil drawing look with the tweening motion you get in loose illustrations with graphic lines
No other fx on the veg as the line fx plugs don’t give that natural illustration look

If you want to have a bash and see if it works for you give me a buzz and I can send the veg to you 09e

All you have to do is drop your video clip on track 2 and on track 3, on track 3 move the clip over 3+- frames for the amount of tweening you want

Track 1 set the brightness and contrast and detail and details the midtones
Track 2 uncheck black and white if you want a color etching and levels for contrast this is the tweening track

Track 3 is the color of the pencil led line work multicolored or plain grey etc

This is a low res rendering looses a lot of detail for the web. HD 720P looks very good holds detail

Hi Rory please send the veg for this it looks stunning, and where is the tweening motion on vegas.
Rory Cooper wrote on 7/15/2010, 3:59 AM
Tweening motion is just a visual effect so it’s not in Vegas but it will come from the offset video layer to give an impression that its processed graphics

The tweening motion comes from animation where the main key frames are hand drawn then the between motion is added and drawn in afterwards
During this process you will see the images from under layers move lining up in and out finaly when the artists are happy with the motion then the frames are rendered out to give smooth motion.this will have a different cartoony look This was the old way of doing it before computer animation.

The effect I wanted to create was the loose motion graphics before the final frame by frame compositing it has a very loose sketchy feel
And all the plugs and Aps like Boris,AE gave me a hard line with blotchy speckles

The other aleranative is to render an image sequence of jpegs or png’s and batch convert in Photoshop never the less it won’t have that free loose feel

You will have to set the levels of the different clips to get the max from them

This would work best on slow moving clips that are progressive I am not sure how interlaced clips will come out
It could look good on an intro to a wedding clip or music Event etc
TeetimeNC wrote on 7/15/2010, 5:42 AM
Rory, very clever and outstanding as usual. I can definitely see using this on wedding videos.

Please send me the veg.

Is the sometimes vertical, sometimes horizontal streaking a result of the tweening, or is that a separate treatment?

Hello Rory,

found myself immersed & felt uplifted by feeling involved.
Left me wanting more.......! Wore out the replay.
If narrative has many faces -these were the elements that struck me.
.
Some Network editors should take note of the pacing of the various human dramas allowed to unfold in your edited clip. You allowed space & time for observation by the viewer. (No frenetic compulsion to insert as many possible events in 1second....)

Did justice to continuity of eyeline framing by camera people over the whole piece.
Selection of high energy audio helped drive the clip.

In this veg & other motoring,Rugby vegs, also an eye for the ordinary things that add to the flavour.Great to see an NZ on one of the helmets.

Thanks for sharing your painstaking efforts.I am still crawling, getting to grips with bread & butter basics, such as masking, difference etc.

thank you, michael ….....now where is that replay button
Rory Cooper wrote on 7/15/2010, 7:25 AM
Thanks for the positive feedback folks

Jerry on the veg track 1 contains the lines which ignores the highlights and overlays the lines in the shaded bits like you would when doing a sketch or etching so you can angle the lines any direction you choose so if you took a white page with black lines radiating from the centre right click and drag and drop replace as take this would have a real zoom effect on the image try it out

It takes a while to get the feel of how much light and shaded bits you want but I managed to get some good results depending on the clips HD worked great

Hey Michael good game last Saturday, NZ awesome stuff

It looks great!

Why not host the veg on VASST.com?
Rory Cooper wrote on 7/15/2010, 10:16 PM
David how do I get it on Vaast? Would be ideal for everyone

Paul I need your address mail it to me roryc@tsogosun.com
Rory Cooper wrote on 7/16/2010, 3:00 AM
Ulf you can use the veg to get a pen and ink look or clean marker wash storyboard look without the tweening

Change the grey to blue for blue outline or push the contrast centre to crunch detail etc the levels between track 1 and 3 will crunch the detail

Uncheck black and white on track 2 to make it color

Adds an astoundingly dramatic edge to the car clip, your inventiveness continues! Any chance of a copy of your veg please?

Cheers,

Rory: Great work. I would also like the veg please. Who wouldn't? I think there a number of sites that allow you to put up your veggies for public access. VASST is an obvious one, Cow another. Chienworks?

Rory,

Ditto, I'd like a copy of that .veg. Definitely classy, eye-catching fx :) Please use forum/membership contact modality (I don't like to post email addresses in forums).

On hosting that or other .veg file/s:

VASST is a good idea and/but anyone with some website real estate could create a page and link to download it too. I may change my site around (purge a lot of stuff at some point such as pages I created for Qs at this site years ago and so on) so I'm probably not the best solution.

Thanks for the creative freebie.
