OT: CPU upgrade

Has anybody upgraded from i7 920 to 980 extreme, and could share how much difference in rel life editing / encoding they have?

Did you looked at xenon processors? Vegas needs lot of CPU. I think you should consider upgrading to xenon instead of I7 980

Thanks Siby, but then I need another motherboard, 2 CPU's to get more out of it I think, and that is not the budget right now.

I have an i7 960 and it makes Vegas quite enjoyably responsive in everyday editing tasks...

But a 920 should be very capable as well. Check the rendertest.veg thread in this forum for examples...

Take a look at my HDV Render test in that thread. I am near the end. See if the times make a difference to you. I love my 980X. It out runs most workstations. You have to manage its voltage very carefully. If you choose to go with one I can send you my voltage and cooling.

Preview is only slightly improved over average quad cores, but render and transcode is speedy.
