AVI is a container, not a video format. You must tell us the actual video format inside the AVI file (e.g. XVID), in order to help you. Or at least, tell us the model of the camera.

I pulled open a clip and the clip looks like this in properties. Clip00001.avi. It was filmed using a brand new insignia handheld flash drive based hd camera. It does not have a model number on it.

No model number?? There's not a tiny label on the bottom of the camera?

Is it one of three cameras on the second rowHERE??

If so, did you install the Arcsoft Media Impression software the camera came with? It may have the codec necessary for your computer and VMS needs to play the file. It's also possible that you'll need to convert the file to someting VMS can use.

What format does VMS use best? I can convert to whatever file type as my camera will allow it to use whatever.

The Insignia HD models use h264 in an AVI wrapper. Download and install the free x264vfw codec from Sourceforge.

Actually the one I have is the 10 mp still camera one. I tried downloading the codex but it came out in super slow motion so i will giver a go later.

Am I right in my understanding that if I have studio 9 then I am not going to produce HD videos even though my camera is an hd camera? If you can't tell I am new at this!

VMS9 will do HD, you still need the codec though.

The base version, VMS9, will not do HD.

The more sophisticated versions, VMS9 Platinum and VMS9 HD will do HD.

All versions of VMS10 will do HD.

True. I made the assumption he had Platinum Edition. You're right, it does make a difference in what version of 9.

Alright. I am now stumped. I downloaded the codex and was finally able to view my videos, but they were all without sound and in slow motion on Windows. I put them in VMS and they came in a slide presentation. I downloaded the software that came with the camera and it did not help. I am thinking I need the next step up on the VMS versions.
