custom highlight for buttons

Before anyone answers, please note that I have already read the manual and I have already searched this forum for answers.

I have followed the menu path Highlight/Style and selecting "custom". However, the mask cannot be changed. This function is subdued, non-selectable. The only other place I can find in the manual mentioning highlight is in the background media section. Adding a masked image there does nothing.

I got this one. I needed to render out of After Effects with Photoshop Layers instead of just Photoshop. Sweet!

FWIW I usually just *save for web*, saving a png out of P/Shop. Over the years I've found DVDA can on occasion do somewhat strange things with the hi-lite masks, & by using a separate file, it's no bother at all to tweak it as needed back in P/Shop.
