Ver. 9d Corrupted Image Sequence Files

Bad enough Vegas Pro 9d will no longer edit our (many) animated image sequences rendered to psd single layer. Now the "Coup de Gras" for us animators. . . 9d can't handle png or jpg animated image sequences either. These files actually make it into the timeline, but 9d appears to corrupt their color data, literally rendering them useless.

You don't need a $3500 3D animation application or complex image sequences to try this at home. Make a simple one color still image, say 1920x1080 RGB= 256 0 0 (use PS, Paint, whatever you like). Save this as the file 1.png. Save it again as 2.png and 3.png.

Place the single image "3.png" on a 9d track and reduce its length to just a few frames. Place "1.png, 2.png, and 3.png" just to the right of it, as a single file "image sequence" (not as individual stills). If you don't know how to do this "bless you", suggests you are not an animator and may never have this problem.

Compare the color of the "3 image sequence" with that of the individual "3.png still" in the preview window. For this 9d tester, the image sequence color has been changed to RGB=216 3 4, and it renders that way as well. The color of the individual still image 3.png is not corrupted and renders fine as RGB=256 0 0.

RGB 256? I thought RGB maxed at 255.

What format are you rendering from the timeline to?

Use any color numbers you wish and any render format. Here the color diffrence shows in the timeline video preview window at all quality settings, and unfortunately, in the rendered product (1080 60i, 1080 24p, 720p, DV 720x480). The colors appear unaltered in 9d timeline thumbnails.

Can't spend much more time on this one. We were looking for workaround to 9d intolerance of psd image sequences. Discovered this after loading png and jpg sequences. Different project pixel formats and gamma corrections, preview window color management. . . tried to no avail. Back to 9c where we can edit psd sequences and never experienced this particular problem in that sea of red frames.
