Echo at end of audio clip

What's the best way to add a configurable echo at the end of an audio clip? Is the best way to split the clip into two so that the part I want to echo at the end is its own separate clip to which I apply an echo effect to that clip? or is there a simple way to do so without splitting the clip.

Splitting would be the quickest, simplest way.

Vegas comes with an automatable delay, which would do what you want -- if you really, really want to avoid splitting the clip. But it would be a lot of work for little return, IMO.

I normally use automation using a BUSS send and place the delay or reverb plug-in on the buss.
I simply automate the send level on the track at the end of the clip for the portion I want to echo or reverb out.

Quite a simple process and no need to split the clip.
