Vegas to DVDA?

Recently upgraded from Movie Studio to Pro.

Working on my first project and have finished the Vegas part and now need to burn a DVD.

I'm spoiled from Movie Studio. There was a button to render and send to DVDA .. nothing like that in Pro.

I think I need to make two files .. mpg2 DVD NTSC and a ac3 audio file? But when I rendered the mpg2 it had audio within the file. Do I need to change the setting to not have the audio in the mpg2? If so, why isn't it a default choice?

My HELP isn't working in either Vegas or DVDA.

You don't say what format you're using, so I'll assume "regular" as opposed to High-Def.

Render the audio in ac3 format using Dolby AC3 Studio (or Pro, if you have that on your system)

Render the video as a Main Concept mpeg2 video DVDA NTSC Video Stream (you didn't say what country you're in, and I'm assuming the USA, therefore NTSC format). Or if you shot widescreen 16:9, select DVDA NTSC Widescreen. MAKE SURE that the file name of the video file, not counting the extension, is exactly the same as the name of the audio file.
Then the Help for DVDA should give you all the info you need about making your DVD out of those files. If your Help is indeed not working, you should try reinstalling.

Are you using the "DVD Architect NTSC video stream" for your render?

Before rendering select a Region (press R) for the part you want rendered and then click the relevant button about rendering a loop region in the Render As window and then render in two parts as suggested - but make sure that each render has the same file name although with a different extension.

In DVDA dragging the mpeg file to the blue window will automatically take the AC3 with it.

You probably used the "DVD" template. This is intended for use with other software (which wants to see the audio multiplexed in with the video). For DVDA you need to choose the "DVD Architect" template, which does not have the audio multiplexed in and expects you to supply a separate audio file, usually as an AC3.

If you'd prefer to have both the files created automatically you could use one of Vegas Pro's major advantages over VMS - scripting. Download and install the free DVDPrep script from VASST which will do it all for you.

Yes, thanks .. now I see the "stream" option. I knew I needed two files so when the audio was combined into the video an alarm bell went off in my head.

Yes, this is a SD project. I assumed when I said DVD instead of BluRay folks would assume SD.

The project is now finished and successfully burned to DVD, thanks guys.

PS. this is the first project I've worked on with my new computer (i7 with 12 gig and Vista 64 .. Vegas Pro 9) Rendering a 56 min SD project only took about 22 min! :-)) All eight CPU's were running 80 to 90%
