Pro version not for sale?

After purchasing Vegas Movie Studio with DVD Architect Studio a few months ago I got used to, and liked, Vegas software (not a fan of our Adobe CS4 suite).
Last week we purchased an EX3 camera and got the free copy of Vegas Pro. This version doesn't come with DVD Architect Pro and it appears that some of the surround (ac3) functionality is tied in with DVD A Pro.
There isn't an option to purchase it separately or upgrade to it unless you purchase the whole Vegas Pro package.

I've downloaded DVD A Pro and am running it as a 30 day trial but the upgrade option only offers Vegas Pro at a high price.

DVD A Studio 4.5 doesn't offer an upgrade path either.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

As far as I know, you can not by DVD Architect Pro as a separate program. Sorry.

Correct -- DVD Architect Pro is not available for sale by itself. You could call customer service and see if they'll offer you a discounted upgrade price (from your DVDA-less Vegas Pro to Vegas Pro with DVDA Pro), but since you got it for free, I wouldn't count on it. Doesn't hurt to ask, though.

Is it Vegas Pro 8.0 or Vegas Pro 9.0? If it's 8.0, you might be able to use the Vegas -> Vegas Pro 9 upgrade path. Maybe even Sony's current Deal of the Decade ($150 for the upgrade plus free goodies).

Thanks for the replies.

It's Vegas Pro 9. I can use the DVDA Studio version but it looks like the ac3 pro encoder is tied into the DVD Architect Pro software which is a minor pain. Maybe there will be a useful upgrade path to Vegas Pro 10!

I did try to call customer service but I think they are now on holiday (I don't blame them).

Cheers!

Sounds like you got something similar to me when I got Vegas Pro 8 from B&H Photo for $125 (or maybe $150, I forget). It did not have ac3 encoder, nor DVD Architect Pro. One reason it was so cheap was that the ac3 encoder adds considerably to the cost ... (license fee) I already had Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 8 so I used the Studio version of DVDA when burning.

I've just taken advantage of the recent upgrade offer (waiting for delivery) so I will have full functionality soon. When Vegas Pro 10 is released there will be a special, limited time, upgrade price (if Sony does what they did for the initial Pro 9 release) that will get you DVD Architect Pro as well as ac3 .. but until then, I guess, you are out of luck.
