TM300 Digital Cinema mode

I just purchased a Panasonic TM300 and it is suppose to do 24P when set to Digital Cinema mode. The problem is it converts and records the footage as 60i. So when I bring the AVCHD files into Vegas, they show as 1920 x 1080 60i. My question is what should my workflow be in Vegas? How and when do I convert the footage to 24P to get the best quality video that will end up on Blueray?

Thanks in advance for any input. I'm just trying to decide if I should even mess with the 24P capability or not on the Pani.

I have the same problem with video shot with my Canon HG21 camera, and in the end I bought the CineForm Neo Scene software which will automatically detect and convert 60i pulldown video into true 24P format. It also makes editing AVCHD video much smoother once it's been converted to the CineForm CODEC.

While I don't own a 24p camcorder, I deal every week with 24p material that has been telecined to 29.97, which is exactly the same as what you are dealing with. I can tell you without reservation that you MUST recover the 24p using inverse telecine software PRIOR to doing any editing. In other words, it should always be the first step in your workflow. I use AVISynth to do this, but Neo Scene is going to be a lot easier to work with and it gives you many other nifty capabilities.

I have a SD100, & when I record in the DIgital cinema mode(not digital cinema color mode), & it does record 24P....

so what is converting the footage to 60i???

how do you know this is happening???

are you using the supplied Panny software to import the footage into your computer???

are you right clicking on the media, in the project media tab, & Vegas is telling you it's 60i???

Thanks guy's. I guess I'll pick up the CineForm Neo Scene software.

Tumbeweed7 - In the manual for the HDC-TM300 it states that in the Digital Cinena mode (24p), the video will be converted and recorded as 60i. When I open the file properties from inside Vegas (the MTS files) it does show as 60i. No I do not use the supplied software to import footage, I just copy the MTS files directly to my PC. I don't believe the software would do any pulldown conversion.
