Coincidentally, I was thumbing through their catalog yesterday and noticed that very few of the camcorders even mentioned the video format used by the camera. I just assumed that they are all doing AVCHD these days so why bother wasting print space with stating such.

Can't see any change in the support of AVCHD camcorders there.

Doing a quick check, I see 22 consumer AVCHD camercorders for sale:

>>> what's the best AVCHD camcorder?

1- Prosumer : Panasonic AG-HMC150 : $3,400 at B&H
2- Prosumer : Panasonic AG-HMC40 : $2,000 at B&H
3- Consumer : Panasonic HDC-HS300 : $1,200 at B&H
4- Consumer : Canon VIXIA HF S11 : $1,400 at B&H
5- Consumer : Sony HDR-XR520V : $1,100 at B&H

I bought a HMC150 a few months ago, and have been extremely
impressed with the quality of the video it produces.

The new HMC40 is also supposed to be quite good.

I second this,
I have a HMC 151, and after a couple of months, when I finally managed to learn hot to adjust all settings properly, the video it records has become just brilliant.

Ditto on the HMC150 - great cam for the money. I especially like its strong low-light performance.

I just did a comparison on the Panny HDC-HS300 (AVCHD and, therefore, HD), Sony XR500V & 520V on

The CamcorderInfo.com review of the Panasonic HDC-HS300 camera, rates it higher than the Sony HDR-XR520V camera, even in low-light, though they do mention that the Sony camera produces low-light images with less noise.

From my own personal experience, I find that the Panasonic HDC-HS300 produces video with richer and more saturated color than just about any other brand on the market.

Currently the CamcorderInfo.com website has the Panasonic camera at the top of their rating table, beating out every other consumer camera that they've tested, including the Sony and Canon cameras.

Dingo,

CamcorderInfo.com is pro Panasonic site and biased against Sony. Panasonic ads are all over that site. Their reviewers lost their credibility. If you don't believe me read users comments after any review.

Dude, you sound like a whiny-ass.

And I just looked at their site. It's all Sony advertising. Nice try though.

A year ago, CamcorderInfo.com had the Canon HV20/30/40 as their top consumer cameras for over two years, with Panasonic listed near the bottom of the barrel, and guess who was their major advertiser during those years? ...It was still Panasonic. So Canon was their top pick for over two years while their major advertiser was Panasonic.

As far as user comments go... Most users promote the cameras they own.

I own a Sony camera, a Canon camera, and a Panasonic camera. I bought the Sony first, then Canon, and then finally Panasonic. After owning Panasonic cameras for the past two years, I've become a convert to Panasonic because of the image quality of the video their cameras produce. The Sony and Canon are both great cameras, but in my personal opinion the Panasonic is slightly better.
