I could never get AAF files To-OR-From any other application except Vegas<>Vegas.
I used an OMF converter before SSL purchased it and made it unaffordable.

I have used AAF to/from PT with no complications (PT needed and 'add-on', I think.

Mine was not involving video, and I did not embed the source media, simply supplying it raw in the same folder as the AAF file itself.

To avoid video, you could possibly save the project, then Save As a new one, delete the video event(s) from the timeline/media pool (not removing the actgual file from teh drive !), and use that resultant videoless project as the AAF source.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

Or alternatively you can Save As a new project, delete the video tracks and then import a rendered video (video mixdown) of the final vision as one track.

AAF and OMF can include vision, but for audio post work this needs to be a single video track.
Professional programs like AVID will do the mixdown as the AAF is exported and when opened in ProTools the vision track will be inserted in Sync. With Vegas this needs to be done prior to export by creating the new Vegas project as described above.
Mind you the AAF that Vegas creates has some 'peculiarities that seem to cuase it to fail.

Don't send an embedded AAF to ProTools as it usually doesn't react wel to them.
