Here is the QT decoder for ProRes released last week.

ProRes opens up just fine in Vegas and playback is pretty snappy, as good as Cineform on my machine.

No encoder though so keeping it in ProRes to go back to a FCP isn't doable at this point.

Someone else here has posted a link to the Apple website where you can download the decoder codec from Apple for free.

But here is the link again

I've downloaded it and played 1920x1080 25fps Apple ProRes files captured with FCP in Vegas.

It works well. Unfortunately you can't create Apple ProRes files it's just the decoder but works a treat and is a tiny download.

Oh boy, would being able to work with/write prores 422 from vegas be a nice piece of functionality!

You can already work with ProRes footage in Vegas with no problem - no export though and I doubt you'll ever see it. Avid DNxHD is how we get back to FCP albeit slow as molasses out of Vegas.

Last time I tested this the Sony YUV codec which we do have in Vegas is compatible with FCP. It's certainly compatible with Ppro and AE. We get it in both 10bit and 8bit as well. Add MacDrive to your system and bouncing files to OSX/FCP systems should be fairly easy. Also the Cineform codecs should be / are compatible. Only problem is both parties have to pay for them.
If all else fails uncompressed works with anything, monster file sizes for sure but portable 2TB disks are off the shelf items these days.

Are there any utilities for Window users that would allow converting HD footage to ProRes422 in order to use it afterwards in Vegas.

I am not much concerned about exporting to ProRes422 from Vegas but would like the possibility to batch convert footage, since I don't own a mac.

Nope.
