CDA vs SFv10 event editor

So far, it looks like Sound Forge 10 has incorporated most of the aspects of CDA into their event editor tool, hence not having CDA bundled with the software anymore (?). For the most part, most of the CDA capabilities seem to be there. However, two options that I use quite regularly in live album production (especially when it is comprised of parts from several different concerts) are the ability to split (or just drop seperate events) and have a plug-in chain option for each event along the same time line (setting up for disc-at-once) and having a null-fade (no fade at all) for crossmixing events as you grab and slide them about. I have not found either of these as of yet in the event tool in SF v10. Perhaps I am missing them. There are work arounds, but they require much more time, etc.

That said, does anyone else have any opinions on CDA vs. the SF10 event editor?

No second timeline, no separate FX chains per 'event'., and a relavively messy timeline implementation.

I feel the extra effort would be well spent making CDA what it should be - a full-featured, usable, and professional CD authoring package..

I've had several people point out to me that, apparently, a license for CDA is included with SF10. I had noticed that in the download, probably because I allready have it (?) and don't recall it being mentioned on the product page. I'm rather indifferent, but had better say something here before the comments begin.

That said, it would be nice to have them bundled as one application, I guees, since they are half-way to doing so anyway. In hind site, I'm not sure why it matters if I still have my CDA 5.2.

My concern and wonder about all this started because of ASIO drivers, which CDA does not support and SF does. Hence my interest in the event tool in SF10.

As in my reply in SF forum, ASIO drivers are pointless in CDA, unless your soundcard does not have regular drivers....

I find it 'nice' that they are separate applications - enables one to focus more oin the actual task in hand, with the distractions of editing so much in your face.

I assume this now gives you the ability to use VST plug-ins in a CDA-like environment.

Slightly CDA-like.

But always could - use a wrapper.
