oh wow, that's sure some good weed.......

when will people learn that default links look awful - barely legible on black.....

Spiffy or not, black or white - the good thing to see is that there IS something happening within the forum, and beind the scene.

Many former changes in this forum might not have been that visible than this latest one. However, any change is welcome since it indicates activity at the SCS end.

But please also update the My Account / System information section! It must be years old. It is almost pathetic that you can select "less than 128Mbyte", when you are asked for how much ram you have in your PC!? Can ANY SCS software run on such amount of RAM? Please also upgrade the OS selection at the same time. 32 or 64 bit? Vista - but wich variety?

I though it must be a temporary error / shortcoming that caused the change - looks a bit bleak to me.
edit - one thing that made me think this was seeing text right up against the vertical dividing lines - that's anything but spiffy!

It does look kind of sparse. And all that 100% white with metallic grey background, too much contrast.

I also notice they've now got a YouTube channel. B3T will NOT be impressed :)

Easier to see the links at the bottom of the page now - I like it

Really ? I can't read them without leaning forward and squinting!

I often produce DVDs for people with vision impairment - if I made my captions mid-blue on a black background, they'd ask me to change it.

It’s easy to read, it might be that the white panel is +- A4 and for someone like me who still gets most data and briefs on A4 I am used to that format and I like the neutral colors and it’s not cluttered

Some of the other forums I’ve seen I am sure have been designed by drag queens on crack

Sony is ridiculous with this new forum look! This is just about the last straw! I'm THIS close to dropping Vegas and switching to a new NLE, where they have much better looking forums than this!! A good friend of my cousin's dad (or was it his nephew?) said that the Final Cut Pro forum (or was it the Premiere Pro forum?) had much better graphics than this new Vegas look ... ....
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/1/2009, 5:10 AM
I'm finding the "bright white on dark grey" annoying. Very annoying.
FuTz wrote on 9/1/2009, 5:36 AM
Well I guess they're "linking" the looks of the forums to the looks of the new Vegas GUI (dark grey; so praised by some btw).
I think it's ok.
Not annoyed by contrast (I usually don't get stuck here for hours so...) (answers generally pop out so quickly ! ;-) )

Yep the forums look great! Easier on my eyes and love the bottom links with the new youtube channel. Hope they put up lots of tutorials their.

With a 32" monitor the small blue text on black just doesn't compute with me very well.

The blue bar above that fades from right to left needs to change color-wise. Did I just gripe about something? I really meant that as a constructive criticism :)

Radio Guy, I agree. The youtube channel is very nice and it sounds like we can submit examples to SCS for posting there. This could become a really great resource. I suggest to SCS that they also consider hosting downloadable projects and materials, similar to what Vasst has done.

One question about the new look to the forum - I posted a message here with a link to a vimeo video. While editing it I pasted the vimeo embed and I was able to see the vimeo player in the preview window. But when I posted the message all I saw was the embed code. Why would it show up only in the preview window?

Jerry

I would like to add another statement to my above statement.

I do like the darker background and the contrast of the gray with black bars. I like the roundness of the corners and fluidity of the build.

In Google Chrome, the drop down menus show up to the far left instead of under "Software/Content/Support/etc." so there is no way to click on them.

The blue links at the bottom are very hard to read- they need to be white and clicked links should be gray (just my opinion).

However, I do like the direction this forum is taking.

Jeremy, the only blue links I see at the bottom (using IE8) are the language links. Is that what you are referring to? Or perhaps the links you are referring to are SO hard to see that I don't see them at all. The four columns of links at the bottom are white for me.

Like the change overall, with these two first look opinions:

1. The blue "Forums" gradient bar is simply a waste of space - couldn't it be incorporated in to the line that contains my name/profile & logout link? Would allow for more space for actual material. Between the windows title bar, browser menu/address bars, then the Sony navigation bar, and the Forums, about half my screen is taken up by banners!

2. The width of the forums is preset! This forces me to resize my browser window instead of the content adjusting to the window, which is quite annoying. The column sizes should be in percentage rather than fixed widths.

Looks horrible in Safari browser. Much better in Firefox. Won't touch IE with a 10 foot pole.

The trick will be to be able to post a link like every other forum out there without having to copy / paste code...

www.sony.com

- edit - nope, still doesn't work.

Nice, but their main page is not all that Firefox friendly. I had to load up my (not-so-)good old (un-)trusty MSIE to make a purchase.
Their form "buttons" are javascript driven, and the scripts are broken for Firefox it would seem :(

The <<Older Topics and More Recent Topics>> links are still backwards, just the opposite of the way the rest of the world does <<Previous and Next>>

It's an annoyance.

Another improvement would have been simple edit button on the editor. Most forums have something like that, just bold, italic, underline and link, nothing (too) fancy.

That happened to me when I first got here (using Firefox). I refreshed the page, and the menus now appear where they should. Might try that.

Still the same except now the drop down is black instead of gray. Also, on the main sony page (sonycreativesoftware.com) it shows up correctly. Just not on these forum pages.

Now the bottom is white text now instead of blue. Good fix Sony.
