Has anyone here had any experience with Video Forensic software or used Vegas (or other off the shelf NLE) in any way for a video evidence enhancement?
If so, what plugins or filters did you apply to get decent results?
I have and still do ocassionally. However , what plug-in and filters depends on what you need to do in the first place.
While Vegas is fine for basic forensic work plug-ins like Video Analyst from Integraph are the real movers in the video forensic field. The software behind video analyst was developed by NASA for producing sharp focused video of its rocket launches. It can do the type of things most plug-ins wish they could do.
However, it is only available, or at least last time I looked was only available, as a turn key system... computer hardware, EDL software (Adobe Premiere) and plug-in. The cost is extremely high given the rest of the package could be put together for relatively little.
The upside is the results that the package offers from image enhancement, sharpening, stabilization of jerky/jumpy footage, suspect highlighting and bystander masking to name just a few.
