DVDA 5... No 1280x720p @ 25p????

select a BluRay preset...

Now, whats missing here??
25p..
or is it assuming that we're using a 2:2 pulldown at 50i????
Coz WERE NOT... And dont tell me the 25p stream itself is running through 50i coz at 720p it doesnt... and DVDA wants to render the bloody thing... when it shouldnt have to

When i render from Vegas to HDV 720p 25p, im selecting the HDV preset that gives me a 25p output at 1280x720... then when i take this into DVDA5, and try to import it, upon finalisation, it wants to render the clip again to 24p or 50p (depending on my project coz theres no 25p preset, even if I do customise the frame rate to 25 in the preferences section...

Cmon Sony, not all of us in PAL land use interlaced formats... get a grip...

Heres me thinking that we can finally create decent menu'd DVDdisc based HD content... I guess I thought wrong hey...

I think

now you might be saying that DVDA has always strictly complied with the BD standards in regard to formatting... however 720p @ 25fps IS a standard... if it isnt then every PAL PS3 game on the market running at 720p needs to be recalled and retranscoded...

Not sure how accurate this is - [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc] - but according to the article 720p @ 25fps is not allowed on Blu-Ray - only 24p/50p/60p - so DVDA is correct in not supporting 720p/25.

The PS3 games are not Blu-Ray video disks, so that isn't relavent - Sony can do whatever it likes for games - it controls the whole (closed) system.

Well it might not be in the spec but it does work and Sony are supplying software that will do it:

I cannot understand why DVDA gets in our way of creating a non compliant disk, a warning would suffice. It's even more curious considering that DVDA itself is still incapable of creating a compliant DVD.

"When i render from Vegas to HDV 720p 25p" HDV is not BD compliant, you should be rendering to a Blu-ray template.

I cannot understand why DVDA gets in our way of creating a non compliant disk,

((Youre telling me. Every other authoring tool supports MPG audio and it would save me hours of AC3 rendering for raw footage if I could just import the bugger (mpg audio)... but nooooooo... DVDA wont accept MPG audio... pretty stupid if you ask me considering a $30 peice of crap consumer app will do it...
Hell im using Studio11 to capture MPG2 SD for DVD (straight tape to disc)...
Vegas and Vidcap dont even do this live mpg capture.... hell we used to have to use an MPG2 daughterboard on our Storm2 card to do this, now its possible on a sub $100 app... go figure... ))

a warning would suffice. It's even more curious considering that DVDA itself is still incapable of creating a compliant DVD.
((Hahhaah ironic isnt it!!!!! Soooo sick of this political rubbish... ))

Good to read from you Bob, hope all is well with you mate!!

"When i render from Vegas to HDV 720p 25p" HDV is not BD compliant, you should be rendering to a Blu-ray template"

No its not a BD template, its a HDV template, which most, if not all players are touted to support.
Players NOT apps...
Instead of saying "this disc MIGHT NOT work (even though we know it will), DVD just wont let you go any further.

As far as not being compliant, heres where Sony shoot themselves then... coz the EX1/3 only shoots slowmotion at 720p, on a PAL unit its 25fps @720p so anyone using an EX1 for slowmotion, cant scale this material UP it coz it looks crap and cant scale down from 1080i or 1080p to deliver to 720p coz THAT format of region isnt even supported...

So sucks to be an EX owner in PAL land hey... hell even a HVX owner for that matter...

This is a perfect example of the left hand not knowing what the right leg is doing... for a company like Sony its STUPID and theres no excuse for it

hmm...

just making a trashy 25p ordinary DVD...
wow... no 720x576 @ 25p... only 50i... AND get this, the file from Vegas, being 25p native (ie not within a 50i stream<ie HVX style 25pN>) works...

this is trully a peculiar application...

Progressive video is as well as upper or lower field for video DVD production. It all fits the specs. And Vegas does any kind of MPEG output for these cases mentioned (SD video DVD).

the 25p output from Vegas doesnt use a 2:2 pulldown within a 50i stream. Its native 25p. What DVDA is suggesting is that its within a 50i, which it isnt....
Marco. wrote on 7/27/2009, 7:53 AM
You can use native 25p in DVDA for a SD video DVD without recompression.

Oh yeah of course it does, it always has, however according the DVDA, it only supports 50i, which is a VERY different format to 25p. Those who DONT know wouldnt know what to do when faced with this issue unless they came here and looked for it...
