Steve,

I agree completely. I never doubted that they worked hard on Vegas, to improve it further. The very long list of fixes shows us how complicated Vegas really is, it is HUGE. For me, Vegas 9.0 already is just fine, but I sure will upgrade, I am downloading now,

THANK YOU FROM ME TOO!!

Good idea with posting this, Steve.

Many of us (myself included) were quick to point out Vegas V9's faults... Sony personnel listened and patched up a multitude of issues. It's good to give them kudo's now. Great Job, Sony!!

well......

i haven't dived in totally yet, but so far, a few hugs to scs, the kisses will come later when i really start swimming in the deep-end and find i'm not drowning ;-)

I had my doubts as to where Sony was heading... even if it does not fix all the problems.... Sony is starting to rock.. Please keep it up and kill FCP...

From what I've seen and tried so far, this update is massive and makes 9.0 a much much better application.

Very well done SCS :)
John_Cline wrote on 7/21/2009, 11:36 PM
SCS releases a new X.0 version, it has some issues, people complain about the new version and say it's the worst release ever, a short time later SCS releases the X.0a version which fixes a lot of stuff and everyone is happy again. This is the way it has always worked.
ushere wrote on 7/22/2009, 12:14 AM
very true jc, but that ISN'T going to change the matter one iota!

when X.0 comes out, we expect perfection, and if some of use don't get it, we'll make a lot of noise about it ;-)

Good to see all the positive points here but lets not forget not all known issues are resolved in this a version

Dave
John_Cline wrote on 7/22/2009, 1:42 AM
And not all the issues will ever be resolved in any version. This is the nature of software.

to quote that evil being.....

"........because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

I have an open support request with sony

Yesterday this was added my Eric C

"Hi David,

Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.

Please download and install the latest update of Vegas Pro 9.0, which was just released today. You may download the update here: link"

my reply was

"The new version 9a 32bit and 64bit do NOT solve my smart render problem"

Eric then added

"We will gladly support the issue through to resolution "

So sony dont share your idea of not fixing faults

So I am still waiting
Eric also wrote yesterdsy

"The information I provided indicated that I am seeing the issue using your files only, and have escalated the issue to development. I have not been able to reproduce the issue using any other AVCHD files available. "

If others are still having problems may I suggest thay also open support requests and send in links so eric can download the files that will not smart render for them

It maybe that they have sent them in and eric shooses not to admit others have the problem even though thay are here for all to see on a forum hosted by sony

Yes... another great Sony conspiracy. Sometimes I wonder how Sony keeps them all straight without tripping all over themselves ;)

"We WILL gladly support the issue through to resolution "
As I said to you in another post, this issue was brought forth to them all of a week ago. Something like this will take time to sort out. You should give them that time before you start with the conspiracy theories, name calling.... etc

Now Eric has stated that he found something odd and passed the issue onto Engineering. What more do you expect him to do? What part of his job hasn't he done for you? Where has he gone so wrong?
Steve_Rhoden wrote on 7/22/2009, 4:17 AM
Every known issue can never be completely covered David....
But with this extensive Update they almost hit a perfect note.
Your particular complaint is recently known to them...and someone their
is putting your issue forward....So be patient and a bit more understanding.

David Laine

Of Course not, and I have already spotted a few I wish had been fixed, but none of those were show stoppers.

SCS had two options, and I've seen people root for both I might add.
1) Take a long time with 9.0a, and get as many fixes in as possible, fatal as well as cosmetic ones. In essence, fix all known issues, and release a near perfect 9.0a.
2) Release 9.0a which fixes the majority of the really severe bugs, the ones that cause the application to fail or become unsuited to the task under certain circumstances.

They obviously went with door number 2, had they done number 1, you'd have had to wait at least a couple of months more than you had so far, and you would have been just as unhappy with that.
Expect 9.0b to handle all the new major problems that may show up, and a lot of the minor grievances as well. And expect 9.0b to not show up for another 4-6 months, unless a really REALLY fatal bug is found in 9.0a.

Try as they might, Sony failed to make everyone happy, time to get the governement involved. If there was only a universal NLE program - sorry I must have been dreaming that I was channel surfing the news.

Anyway, I appreciate the update. Version 9 has been running relatively well and I can not complain one bit. I use it every day for work. (and let there be competition.)

Thanks for 9a. Incredible turnaround.

Loving Sony Vegas even more!

Very, very nice job Sony! Count me as one happy camper - I am impressed!

Now we just need a CUDA plug in added in 9.0b :)
John_Cline wrote on 7/22/2009, 8:51 PM
Guys, CUDA is not the Holy Grail of video editing. There seems to be a LOT of people here on the forum stating how much better things will be once we finally get CUDA in Vegas. If it were easy to integrate and of major benefit, it would have been in Vegas by now.

How many know what CUDA actually is and what it can and can not do for Vegas? Avery Lee, the author of Virtual Dub, has been experimenting with CUDA, his observations can be read here:

David has turned all of these complimentary threads into his forum to complain of the thing he wants to be fixed. Enough already!
Bob Denny wrote on 7/22/2009, 8:56 PM
Oh, and I should say that I too am extremely impressed with 9.0a. My needs are modest, but at every turn Vegas has met or exceeded them with stability and elegance. As a software developer, I can see the tremendous depth and creative talent that went into Vegas. Reading through the list of things that were fixed in 9.0a left me speechless.
Rory Cooper wrote on 7/23/2009, 1:49 AM
Just locked and loaded my 9.0a

Fired off a coupla mpegs and nobody got hurt….exept a few old CRT’s

Sony we are not worthy of such awesome power…but thanks we’ll keep it.
