OT: Know this font?

kentwolf wrote on 6/25/2009, 6:59 PM
Big (Vegas) project here.

Trying to identify this font:

http://home.comcast.net/~kentwolf/NameThisFontJPG.jpg

All I have is a rasterized PSD file, so the font name is not there. It sort of looks familiar, but I cannot quite place it.

Does this look familiar to anyone?

Not sure if this is a standard WinXP font. Doesn't seem to be. Would appreciate the input...

Thanks!

It appears to be Adobe Garamond.

Without making a direct comparison, I was guessing a Garamond variant also.

The letters "O", "n", and "e" yes, but the period definitely looks like Arial to me. (just kidding...)

"Angsana New" does appear to be a pretty close contender:

Anyone use a font-browser, that shows examples of all fonts on a system ? Any recommendations for one?

Hi,

http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont might be helpful in cases like this.

BTW: kentwolf's example is said to be a Garamond type.

Cheers

Yea. I use X-Fonter. Shows installed fonts and lets your browse other font folders and install on the fly.

Ah you young whippersnappers....

Groucho Marx on his 50's You Bet Your Life TV show: "Say the secret Woid...." then the duck comes down from the ceiling and the contestant wins.

NBC is using a big chunky font that looks good in HD for their show promos.

Anyone know what it is?

Aharoni -- or possibly Rice-a-Roni -- or maybe Wingding 3. I'm not too good at this but I love playing.

Hi

http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ is pretty good at identifyng fonts. It's worked out a couple of quite obscure ones for me from just a few letters.

"Oh, I guess you submitted a screen shot"

Yep. Just a screen grab, crop and increase contrast ratio a little.

It looks like you would seriously need to adjust the kerning to replicate the NBC look.
