FX envelopes are only at the track level and there are no Key Frames for Audio FX. This applies for ACID and Vegas.

Is there a chance that the ability to apply FX envelopes project-wide could be available in the future?

I don't understand what you mean by "project wide". Can you give me an example of your desired workflow?

I used to use cool edit to do stuff like that. Cool Edit is now called Adobe Audition. You could do tons of effects to a section of the audio, fade it in at the beginning, fade it out at the end, then copy that part, then undo everything, fade the unedited part out at the beginning, fade it in at the end, then last but not least do a mix paste. Now with Acid, I just duplicate the track tons of times and do tons of different fx for each of the duplicated tracks. Apply lots of volume fades & you'll get what you seek. ;)
