Subject:render MIDI file playing VST

I am blanking out after not having used ACID for a while. In AP7....I recorded a MIDI file and then sent the MIDI output to VST synth Atmosphere. It plays back perfectly.

Is there no a way to record that same VST audio output to an new audio track? Can't remember if it is possible to route the audio output of a VST mixer track to a new audio track to record it.
Thanks

I've tried routing the VST audio output and can't any way to do it. Tried routing it to a bus, but cant record the bus or route it to an audio track. I even tried RENDER TO NEW TRACK and the audio track records silence.

This seems like it should be a very basic thing to do - am I missing something obvious or can you really not record the VSTi output to audio in AP7? I know I can render the whole project to audio when I 'm completely done, but can't I do the same with a single VST output?

OMG - I used the TOOLS>RENDER TO NEW TRACK and it worked this time. I had been hit by the dreaded problem of recording MIDI and nothing happens on playback.

This has been an ongoing issue with me in Acid 6 and now 7. If I record a MIDI file then go back and play, there is silence. I have to save the project, close AP and go back in or edit the MIDI file before it will play back properly.

Any fix for this? I know I've seen it before in other threads!

That is a strange one. I recorded several midi tracks today, and did not have that issue. It must be in the way Acid is working with your particular system. Does the clip show up visually but simply produces no sound? Do all other tracks play normally, and just silence from the one? After recording are you unclicking the tracks record button?

I have noticed some odd things in Acid 7 when the "focus" is not where I think it is. Because of the way Acid is laid out (which I like) it can be a problem keeping focus in the area you want. I often have to click in an area to get things to work like I think they should.

I have been rewireing Orion into Acid with no issues at all. I am quite impressed since I have never had all that much luck with rewire. I record midi in Orion and Acid, record audio into acid and have not had one hicup. I keep waiting for the big lock up, but everything works great.... and this on both my XP SP2 desktop and my Vista Business laptop. Very impressive......

Well, I see the midi notes in the track, but when I de-select record and play back the track nothing sounds. If I open the Track Properties and edit the midi in there, maybe just move a note back and forth and then close and hit play, it plays fine. Or if I record and deselect record. I see the notes and then have to close the program and restart it. If I just try to play the track back immediately without doing either of these two things first, I get no sound 90% of the time.

I know at least two other AP users that are friends that have had a similar issue and have actually stopped using Acid for midi projects. They only use it now for loop based projects becasue of the problems with recording and playing back midi.

I iwll keep trying to figure this one out because I love AP7 and want to keep using it for my midi projects.

BTW, I am using a MIDIMAN 2X2 and a Steinberg MI4 Audio/MIDI interface. I have not tried recording the midi via the MI4 yet, only the MIDIMAN. I will try this to see if it makes a difference!

By recording midi I am not sure if you mean you are sequencing hardware synths, or VSTi's. I use only VSTi's, so my experience may be different than yours. Anyway, I solved many problems years ago when I got rid of all midi interfaces and went to "plug and play" USB keyboards. I have zero problems for several years since getting rid of midi interfaces, midi cables....etc Anyway, I know this doesn't really help you, but the day I threw out midi hardware is one of the "best" days for my sanity. The more wires, cables and hardware you have then the more opportunities for problems you have. USB 2.0 is way faster and more stable than traditional midi.

If you are running hardware synths, then of course you are going to have to deal with midi interfaces and wiring/hardware problems. If you are in fact running hardware then the only advise I can give you is to download the demo, or use another sequencing program to see if it is only Acid that has this problem on your system. How modern sequencers interface and interact with hardware is something I will admit that I have no current experience with.

I seem to have the same issue when using the Atmosphere plug in. all other midi aps I use dont seem to have this problem.
