ATI 4850 second display help?

I figured I would try here first. ATI is a bit slow on their help side.; )
I was wondering if anyone had this card and was using it for their editing monitor and also have a lcd tv hooked up for the preview.
I have our 42 inch hooked up to the dvi off the card and then go into vegas/video preview/ and set the external monitor to windows secondary. When I choose the external preview button it automatically goes to the editing monitor and not out to the lcd.
I only see options like clone and stretch to second monitor under the 4850 catylist center. These only do just that. I don't want a giant vegas screen or a giant preview window. I just want it to show the actual video like my crt used to do.
Any help? A HUGE thank you. LOL

It's a Catalyst driver so everything should be the same regardless of card. The Desktop mode should be "Extended", not Stretch. That'll give you two independent displays.

Once all that is set up then open Vegas, right click on the Preview window, choose Preview Device Preferences, and then in that dialog choose the correct display in the "Display Adapter" drop-down.

Since your preview monitor really IS a 1920x1080 display you can uncheck the option to Scale Output to Fit the Display. This would be more useful for SD projects.

Thanx Rob.
I tried to set the 42' lcd/tv at 1920X1080 but it crashes the computer after a few minutes and causes a blue screen dump.
I tried a few lowers ones but this too killed the puter LOL.
She got mad.
I do have the Intensity pro card but it was a bit quirky with applied video fx through vegas as I laid out my post on the forum.
Maybe I should try the Intensity pro again.
Sometin is a miss here. : )
Thank you Rob.

Intensity pro is about the sam actually. I guess I should ask.
What others use for their setup for hdv footage with fx added.
What is your workflow. What type of card and what type of preview can you achieve.

If you are getting BSOD's it suggests a driver or hardware problem - does this just happen with Vegas ?

Do you have enough horsepower from your PSU? This card requires external power and if I recall, ATI recommends a minimum of 650-Watts.

It happens only in vegas.
The power supply I added to the machine is 610 watts. This is a Dell that came with a 350 watt power supply. A little low for what we needed. ; )

I7 with 6 gigs ddr3, raid O, running on vista 64 with vegas 8 and vegas 8.1.

Are you able to add say a glow fx to an hdv clip and have it play without frame drops with a preview of best full?

Thank you byt eh way. : )
