Clicks and Crackle

Problem presents randomly with no apparent pattern after capture in both V8 and V9.
Not on original SD DV tape shot with DVX.
Levels are good.
Can process through iZotope RX to clean up as a last resort.
But curious to know what's going on here.
Any thoughts?

Dan, does this happen only after capturing? If you had the problem in V8 and now in V9, It sounds to me like you've had the problem a while. Does this happen with tape only from your camera or any camera?

I had been capturing to an external hard drive.
I captured to another on board drive, and though it sounded like a bowl of Rice Crispies close up while monitoring the capture, the file plays clean from the timeline.
Think I need to defrag that external HD.
Hmmmm, wonder how one does that drive (the external one) as it doesn't show up in the disk defragmenter tool and when you click properties this is NO tools tab.
