Invisible background

Hi everybody.
It's been a while. I'm sure the answer is simple. So please; a little latitude. A possible client wants to put his image on his web page. He does not want a background behind him. He just wants his image in front of his page with his own clips in the background. I see a few web sites with people doing this. I never thought about how to do this. How do you do this. Any help would be appreciated.
Jeffery

p.s. oh yeah, he says he does everything in flash. He wants an AVI file. I tried rendering an avi file and came up with a 13gb size file. What format should I deliver in? It's too big for a disk, and way to big to email. Any suggestions?

It is filmed in front of a green screen and then converted to flash w/ an alpha channel. The file size depends on typical factors. The flash file could hit 13 gig easy for just a couple of minutes. From your description it sounds like he is converting the file to flash. You need to create an AVI file w/alpha channel.

Again, I'm new to the process. Render as Jimmy.avi? that's it? I did the chromakeyer and the chromablur and all that like I usually do when I do a green screne. Click on properties>media> dirty. Is there anything else I need to do?

You have to render uncompressed to get an alpha channel in an AVI file. This will be an extremely large file. Chances are you will have to deliver it on a hard drive. You will get a smaller file by using Quicktime with the Animation codec but if the client can't accept a MOV file then uncompressed AVI is your only option.

To do this:

(1) Choose File | Render As... and make the Save as type: Video for Windows.
(2) Press the Custom... button and on the Video tab select the Video format: Uncompreseed
(3) Finally, check the option below that says (x) Render alpha channel (uncompressed video formats only)

This will render an AVI file with an alpha channel.

JohnnyRoy you are the man. Thank you big guy.

From the meeting we had yesterday I was told they had never done this, so, what can we do. Then they called in their "guy" who wasn't sure what he needed. I think the company's guy wanted to sound informed in front of the other three guys, so he asked for an AVI. But they did say they did everything in flash. Should I suggest a different format? Is there a way to render in flash from V8?
