V9 Free Offers

I am sold on Vegas Pro V9 and am ready to upgrade. Now I need to choose between the free offers. There doesn't seem to be a lot of detail provided. For example, what is the price of the offers if purchased separately? I am interested in the Sound Effects package but already have a Sony CD with 1000 sound effects. Is the new offer a duplicate of that? If not, is there a list of what sound effects are included in the package? Thanks,

There was some comment on the email (?) or somewhere that the sound effects were "not available in any other Sony package" or something to that effect. I couldn't decide between the sound studio and the newbluefx ... so I got both - ordered my "free" sound studio then purchased the sampler pack from NewBlueFX for $50. I never did find any more information on the sound effects though.

Thanks,

Have you received the sound effects? What did they include?

No, I ordered the sound studio (and got the video fx sep). Sound effects sounded interesting, but I could not find out what was in there either and since I already have a number of sound effects from Digital Juice, decided to skip on them. It would have been nice if Sony had made it a bit easier to find out what was included in the free items - their descriptions were a "bit" lacking.

4110, I don't think anyone has received their software yet so I doubt we can answer your question at this time.

To share my thought process when I ordered, I decided on the Sound Forge option for several reasons. I found that I can get high quality sound effects for free by going to various sites on the Web, or I might occasionally purchase an effect if there is a need. Generally, I seek out specific sound effects only if I have a project that requires them, so a collection is really not much use to me. As for the New Blue FX sampler, I already have Boris RED which can do just about every effect New Blue has to offer and a whole lot more. Like the sound effects, I use "fancy" video effects sparingly. What I do use is lots of filters in RED for color matching, object tracking/pinning, object removal, cloning, etc.

One time I was shooting a scene from a small cliff in Acadia National Park of a sunset by a stoney beach where an old three-masted wooden ship was passing through the sun's reflection. Just then, a kid came running across the beach with his hands flailing in the air. With the RED Motion Key filter I was able to seamlessly take him out of the scene. The effect is completely undetectable and saved the clip. That alone made RED worth the price for me.

Thanks guys. Tech, you make Boris RED sound pretty impressive. I will have to check it out. I have the previous version of Sound Forge so unless there is a significant enhancement in the latest release, I am left with a choice between New Blue FX or Sound Effects.

David, it is a really nice compositing tool and plugin but be aware that it is pretty expensive (around $1000).

RED also has a pretty steep learning curve to use it to its full potential.

I use it but at the utmost of Beginners level.
Usually for ChromaKeying, Text, and the Templates... but just this little bit can make a BIG difference.

This is simply not true. I saw the same line claiming uniqueness.

These very sounds offered now with Vegas 9 were offered in a "Sony Sound Series Loops & Samples" set offered some years ago, I think as part of a Sound Forge package.

I picked this option and found that I had already gotten these very files years ago.

They are all dated 2/18/2005.

I opted for the sounds effect - unfortunately.
Sound effects are fine, if you get 100 000 in a searchable library. The chance that the sound you need is there is small, IMO. Very small.

At the end ogf the day, I take my Edirol out ad record the effects I want myself. If possible. Or buy sound clips online.

I had hoped the sounds effects contained smashes, wooshes, swooshes, stingers, jingles etc. as used in professional production.
Instead these effects are animals, trains etc. which you will find a ton of on the Internet, many for free.

Probably they were thinking, "...in any other package [that is currently available]..."
