Hey...
I thought it was just me. Windows Vista, HP intel quad core, 3gb ram, two monitors.

My new machine is still running XP Pro but it also has 3GB Ram , Core 2 Duo Quad, dual output NViDiA Graphics card? Is that what's causing it? LOL.

Sigh!!
And to think that it was only yesterday that one user said (in regards to Vegas Pro 9):
I'm really happy that they made the trimmer window prominent by default. I was getting tired of reading the constant "play's my audio but were's my video?" posts.

Please do a search here (this comes up a LOT) or read the What’s New portion of the Pro 8.c readme for the answer.

I figured out my problem and maybe yours too. It was the reinstall. When you reinstalled it, did you do it straight from 8.0c?

When I first installed 8.0 it was from the first version. After that I just kept on doing the upgrades. When I saw the same affect that you had, I uninstalled 8.0c and reinstalled the first version. I got the preview from the time line back.

I went straight to 8.0c and lost the preview again. So, I uninstalled 8.0c again and reinstalled the first version again. (s#*t) this was taking some time.

Note very important!!! I uninstall them and also the temp files in apps>local>temp and reinstalled from 8.0. I also restarted after each install.

Next, I reinstalled 8.0a and noticed the preview remained. I reinstalled 8.0b and the preview remained. I reinstalled 8.0c and lost the preview.

I will continue this when I get back home this afternoon. The only difference so far is that I didn't delete the temp files between installs of 8.0b and 8.0c like I did between installs of 8.0, 8.0a, 8.0b.

Maybe someone can pick this up.

Jeffery, please read the 8.0c readme I refered to as it will solve your problems.

Mike, that doesn't help my problem (see the first post) I have preview from Media Manager and Explorer; I don't have normal preview for anythying on the Vegas Timeline? To repeat the 8.0c readme does not solve my problems!

Steve, out of curiosity, have you turned off the Show Video Monitor button in the Trimmer window?

Hi Mike.

Yes I turned it on and off...makes no difference. I was aware of that button in the trimmer because that caused problems in earlier versions of Vegas as well where I couldn't get a preview from explorer in the main preview window until that button was turned off.

I appreciate your input Mike.

Problem solved here...was some glitch in the preferences or something? I just talked to Sony on the telephone and was told to close Vegas; hold down control & shift while clicking the Vegas desktop shortcut; put a check mark in the box where it say delete all cached application data; click yes; all should be well when Vegas opens. :_)

Thanks Steve. I'm just trying to cover all the bases.
Here's another possible solution that I completely forgot about.
Check the Split Screen View icon (above the Preview window) and make sure it's not enabled and set to Clipboard (FX Bypassed is the default) because, if it is, it'll cause the problems you're experiencing.

edit: it looks like you solved the problem.
The only issue I have is that you still don't know why it was doing that in the first place :-(
