Vegas seems to become unstable and crash a lot if you use a Sony Pitch Shift as an assignable FX.
I set it up with "Preserve Duration" on, mode: Speech 3 (fast), pitch down by 12 semitones. Use those and send some audio tracks to it if you want to reproduce the crash. At least on my system it is quite likely to happen.
I'm using 8.0b (build 217) on Windows XP, via the onboard sound chip (SigmaTel Audio).
