Back in the dark old days of 2005, it was possible to get a "File Format SDK" from
Sony Creative that would allow one to make a plugin to write out or ingest different file
formats. I recall that I had to sign an NDA or two. If anybody knows anything
about the current state of this SDK I would love to be contacted offline at
