Render it out as a Quicktime movie in FCP, or do a Quicktime Pro file conversion. it will drop right on the timeline in Vegas.

Well that method will give you a single rendered vision file and associated audio which can be opened in Vegas but I don't think that is what CDM was asking.

EDL Convert Pro allows for conversion from FCP XML to Vegas XML BUT it is designed for conversion of projects between AUDIO NLEs and while it can certainly give you the audio edits as separate events it only offers a single video event/track.

THe only method that currently works for both is EDL export from FCP (meaning an EDit Decision List as a text file) and using the EDL to redigitize the footage in Vegas.

Though I use both FCP and Vegas I can't say I've tried it myself but I've seen others recommend it on this forum.

Vegas's EDL is nothing like other EDLs and is of little or no use in going between platforms. About the only use I've found for the EDL is when you want to take a project back to an earlier version of Vegas.

I may well be wrong here but I thought Vegas, like many other NLEs, has an export to CMX (or equivalent) EDL accessible via the Scripting menu.

Not the Vegas EDL but a linear editor format EDL as prudced by CMX and Grass Valley editing systems.

I also thought there was a way of importing a similar type of EDL into the batch capture function of Vegas or Vidcap to allow recapture of the original material off tape.

If I remember correctly even Premiere 6, the last version of Premiere I used for editing, had this function available.

I've never wanted to use it in Vegas, but I know FCP has an EDL export which allows you to export EDL text files compatible with CMX 340, CMX3600, Sony 5000, Sony 9100 or GVG 4 Plus.

So I'll check out if any are able to be imported into Vegas and post again.

a year ago i hired a editor that used FCP ... he was in LA and i was in SF ... he emailed a FCP EDL and from what i remember every other clip in TL was close to the correct "cut" but the other "every other clip" was totally wrong ... when we finally got in the same location for a week of cutting we tried & tried but we could not come up any solution ...
also the EDL he emailed me had 2 video tracks and 1 audio track ..V7 picked it up as 4 video tracks and several audio tracks .... once he went to serveral video tracks, effects, & multi audio then the imported EDL into Vegas was wrong on ALL clips/tracks etc ....
Vegas (2 video & 1 audio track) to Avid works - but it doesn't work the opposite - Avid to Vegas ...
