What's with the 'Loading media' thing?

Seems like every time I go to my opened DVDA project from some other app, I get this 'Loading Media Files' progress bar at the bottom left which forces me to wait for about 10 seconds or so.

What media is it referring to? The page I have open doesn't really have much, and is already displayed anyway (so I figure it's not the current screen).

Is there a way I can turn that off.... or hide whatever it is that it's referring to so it doesn't have to load it each time?

Sony "plays nice" with other windows apps. When Vegas and DVD Architect lose focus, they release any locks on any media. Then when it regains focus, it has to reattach to the media.

If you go to Options - Preferences in Vegas Or DVD Architect (and other Sony programs), there's an option "Media goes offline on loss of focus". If you turn OFF that option, it will no longer release the files and will not have the delay when you return.

The DISadvantage of making this change: Suppose you have an image on the timeline/menu background/wherever. with the option ON, you could pop over to your photo program, change it, and the change will be immediately reflected when you come back. With it OFF, you could change it but not be able to SAVE the change because DVD Architect/Vegas/etc... would still have it locked. You'd have to exit or save it under a different name.

So... it's time for you to decide which tradeoff is more acceptable.

Cool! A choice!

Yup, that's a good feature, but I'm frequently jumping back and forth between DVDA and other apps (email, browser, etc).... So I get that 10-20 second loadup delay each time... which is a bit trying on the nerves.

Excellent. Thanks!

I would expect you could relieve some of this by adding some RAM.

I have 2 gigs on my computer and I have virtually no wait when switching between windows.

Yup, I've got 2 gigs as well. Yet, I have to wait sometimes about 20 seconds for the load up each time. But, as mentioned, you can thankfully turn that off, which works just fine.

Once I finish this project, I'm seriously considering upgrading this one machine to a dual core with 3 or 4 gigs of RAM.... I just have to see if that will even be accessed by my software (Adobe stuff, Cubase, Vegas, etc). I stayed at 2 gigs up to now because I was hearing that nothing really accesses more than 2 gigs (...at least back then).

more important then amount of RAM is the speed of your drives, how much media & how it's compressed. I have 4gb & on some projects ith lots of compressed media it takes longer to load vs a project with uncompressed/optimized media.

I'm running 2 SATA drives. However, in trying to troubleshoot some issues I'm having with my Cubase midi software, it was suggested that I download and run this disc read/write testing utility... which revealed that my drives are not performing as well as would be expected. So, I'm looking into that now that my big project is done.
