Probably A Dumb Question...

I tried searching but couldn't the answer...

I just started using a Sony HV-1U...I know...I'm slow to change. Anyway, when capturing my footage to disk, are they supposed to show up as MPEG or m2t? Vegas 8 says their m2t, but in Explorer their MPEGS.

I'm still working through the thumbnail solution, and Iā€™m wondering if the file type is the problem.

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

M2T files are MPEG2 compressed video wrapped in a Transport Stream container. "M2" stands for MPEG2, the "T" stands for Transport Stream.

Ahhhhh...thanks for the fast response John. So I assume they're still m2t files when I edit them in Vegas.

Hmmmm...I guess I'll have to keep working the thumbnail solution. I've tried all the Registry "fixes" that have been posted, but nothing's worked yet.

Thanks though.

What are you referring to as the ' thumbnail solution' ? And why do you want to change from your HVR-V1U?

If you're talking about thumbnails in windows explorer then I wouldn't worry about it too much. They have added this feature in Windows 7

Hi rstrong,
The "thumbnails solution" is the one that ritsmer referenced with the link. Unfortunately, I've been through that already and still can't get thumbs to work.

And not sure where you go the idea I wanted to change from the V1...I actually meant that I was slow to change from SD to HD. :)

Thumbnails can really be irritating - I use the mentioned solution on 3 PC's - each having their different problems before they showed the wanted thumbnails.
If you go into programs/K-Lite/Configuration /Haali Media Splitter/Explorer integration: is Enable Thumbnails extraction set to Yes?
.. and when you have installed the K-Lite etc. have you refreshed the thumbnails? (else Explorer just still shows the buffered icon of the player)

ritsmer,
This looks like it's working. It just takes a while for the thumbnails to convert - probably due to the size the clips - but as I'm typing this one of the smaller clips has converted to thumbnail! Thanks.
