Mask Error not matching up

I have an error that I can't figure out. Sorry for the slight child porn here, but it's part of the problem. I'm trying to mask out some kids in the tub to show through to a pixilated layer below. The problem I am having is that the event pan/crop shows the mask in one location and the video preview shows the mask in a different area. In the screen shot below you will see that the video preview and the event pan/crop are are the exact same spot on the timeline, but the mask on the preview is not where the pan/crop says it should be. I have messed with the various setting that I think could cause this but nothing seems to change it. Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong here????

looks and sounds like the PAR's (Pixel Aspect Ratio) aren't the same between your two pieces of media, I'd make sure that you've got the same PAR in the right-click properties of the one as you do of the other.

Thanks frigid. I think you may have misread the problem, but help me and sorry if I'm wrong...

The two clips you see in the jpg are the "video preview" and the " event pan/crop" of the same media. Both views are at the same point in the timeline for that media (I have the cursor lock activated). They all have the same pixel aspect ratio, which is the same as the footage and it is also the same as the project properties 1440x1080 @1.333. There is no change if I switch from "match output aspect" to "match source aspect" either.

Is there anything else that could create this discrepency in the position of the masks between the mask creating screen to the video preview scren?

FYI,

1-I created this project in vegas 7 and have opened it in both 8 and 8.1. I think this originally showed up when I opened it in 8, but am not sure.

2-Also, the footage says it is 1440x1080 1.333 but (you can't see this on the previous jpg so here is another - http://drop.io/rcb6bcx/asset/error-2-jpg ) there are black bars on the R/L sides in the event pan/crop screen. The outline of what shows on the monitor will cut off the black bars and outline just the video if I change the position settings to "4:3 Standard TV aspect ratio."

Why is there a keyframe in the event position of the event pan/crop?

I do a fair amount of masking of both HDV and 1920x01080 and have never seen this problem. Seems to me you've done something strange here.

Can I suggest you start a new HDV project and drop the same footage onto the T/L and try what you're doing again.

Bob.

The keyframe is there just to verify that it was the only one and that it wasn't set to anything weird.

I've done this a lot and never had this problem either. Thanks for the new project idea. I was thinking of that earlier today when I was away from home, then I forgot.

So, I started a new project with the video settings set to"HDV 1080-60i (1440x1080, 29.970 fps)" which has the pixel aspect ratio at "1.3333 (HDV 1080)." When imported the media shows it is "1440x1080x12" with a pixel aspect ratio of "1.3333 (HDV 1080)" which is correct for my Sony HC3 camera. And.....I still get the problem...any ideas? I'm at a complete loss.

I'm equally at a loss I'm afraid.

Perhaps you could bundle up a second or two of footage and the project file and email it to one of us to look at. My email address is in my profile, hopefully someone else will put their hand up as well as I'm only running 8.0b down here.

Thanks guys for the help!

I found a computer with vegas 8.0 c on it and the problem does not show up. I started a new project, verified they were starting with the same properties and did it multiple times...end result was this error each time in 8.1 and never in 8.0c.

Also, I found another error in 8.1. When I tried to drop a clip on the timeline without having a video track on there already it will have the video show up in the preview, but there will be nothing on the track area. I can repeat that too. I guess I'll send this off to Sony for them to tackle now and render this mask in 8.0 then bring back into the project.
