Latency in recording...Brian?

I am lately, messing atround recording my own stuff! woo
hoo fun!

I am doing it by recording straight into the PC, but now am
running into those pesky latency problems that didnt really
bug me before.

I am using an Echo gina on the input, and when I play back,
it sounds like I am behind.

I KNOW there was a post on this by someone, Brian F. U
think, on how to deal with this latency...any sufggestions?

Aaron:
Latency is incurable, but ASIO (on BOTH hardware and
software) spells RELIEF!!!!!

Spend the $20 bucks printing the *U*N*O manual at the
nearest Kinko's and your headaches will go away....

Aaron, When you talk about Latency, I need to know in
reference to what? I would have to assume Latency to your
midi Tracks? I always lay "all tracks" to vegas and never
worry about syncing anything with Vegas when mixing....I
can record 50 tracks, so why worry about running out of
tracks. The only thing I then feed timecode to and syncing
is my 03D for doing automation. But in your case if your
experiencing Latency with synced midi tracks then you
should do this to correct it. Record a midi sequence with
Snare hits on beats 1,2,3&4 and loop it. Lay this track
off to Vegas syncing to timecode. Now playback your Vegas
track with the midi Track which should be identical. If
there is a latency problem, then there will be a slight
phase/flaming between snare hits when playing back. Now
move the snare hits earlier in Vegas so they line up
exactly, so there's no latency problems. Once you do this,
goto the beginning of your first snare hit and see where it
hits compared to your sequencers offset time. Subtract
these two times and this will give you the exact latency
time of your hardware. Write this latency time down for
further reference. Now when ever you record tracks to
Vegas and sync these tracks to other devices, select all
your vegas tracks and start them earlier by your calculated
latency time.

I hope this is what you meant,
Brian Franz

The easiest way to do this is to go to Preferences/Audio/Advanced/Latency and offset it there.
