So they've commited to bulding it!
They had it on show at IBC, I recall posting some pics of it but no model number, no availability date and no pricing at the time.

"(And maybe a few other people as well.)"

I agree, if the performance is good and the price reasonable we'll certainly be buying a couple as it's the kind of thing we get quite a few enquiries about renting and for HD there's a lack of anything suitable.

A whole new wave of "upskirt" sites will be flooding the internet soon. : /

It's basically a CX12 encoder with much nicer glass on the front. yes...I'm tweaked I didn't get to keep it. I'm at a world-record skydiving event and would have loved to fly this sucker. I begged.

"I begged. " But did you say "Please" with a smile...... and that you promise not to break it even if the para didn't open....... ;-)

Spot - all that you do for Sony and they wouldn't let you use it? Well, I guess it's pretty clear what they think about you and how much they appreciate all that you do for them :/

A-it's a test unit, there are so very few of them and in the scheme of what I do for Sony Creative...Sony Broadcast really doesn't give a damn. Different crew entirely.
B- When the V1U came out, I was asked to not jump it from an aircraft, and I agreed not to. So...I put it on someone else' head. I broke the spirit, if not the letter, of the agreement.
I guess I deserve not being able to break the demo units.
BTW, I *did* break a beta/prototype EX1....in a skydive.

Bad Spot, bad Spot! ;-) Yea, nightmare users are an engineering team best friend in testing. ;-) After the design is fully vetted.

You're just testing the mechanical reliability of the the unit to determine market success. Tell the guys in engineering to take a chill-pill. :)

YouTube takes a hit but we got our hands on a newer beta model.
Got a half day of ATV, half day of mountain biking, and a skydive in with it.
It's impressive. I have my issues with it, but they're not issues the normal user would have, methinks.
Wish it had a breakaway connector. After opening it up...I can see why Sony didn't provide this as a standard feature. 64 pairs inside the 3/8 cable.
anyway...you can see how it performs. Be sure to enable HD, because even as HD, Youtube takes a hit but not nearly as bad as the SD version...looks better on Vimeo

Thanks for that.
It looks remarkably good. The W.A. adaptor looks pretty soft out towards the edge but it is very wide.
You on the other hand are looking much less wide, wish I could manage it.

Looks typical for a Century Optics WA lens. Some people don't mind this because it gives a sort of "depth of field" effect. Personally, I hate their lenses.

Great looking footage aside from that.

What kind of camera mounting bracket(s) did you use or will be available?

Anyone have a guess as to selling price?
Spot|DSE wrote on 12/14/2008, 8:46 AM
We've tried every 37mm lens threaded product available. Nothing beats the Century for resolution. Nothing that anyone sells. Perhaps there is something privately accessible?
This lens is the "Baby Death." It's designed for this sort of extreme width, as the bicycling pedal shots show. For close-in, super wide.
They also have an asperical vs hemisperical, and for close in wide, it looks very strange. In fact, I used the asperical on the ATV riding shots.
There is a lens test/review of most 37mm lenses on the VASST website.
Price is sub 2K, that's all I know at the moment.
