Thinking of going DIGIDESIGN 001, anyone else?

Have had Vegas since the beginning and thinking of building
PC to meet Digidesign's specs for Win98 PC 001. Frequent
both forum's ( SF and DIgi's) so, I know pros and cons
about what each program can/can't do (Pro Tool's 001-
Limited to 24 tracks). But, just wondering if any of you
have had experience with both. I myself have, and love the
mixing on PT and the ease of SF. Please respond if
cotemplating same scenario.

Thanks.

Jeff

I'm also thinking along those same lines. This is what's going
through my head on these:
- I can't use all those nice DX plugins with PT.
- I already have a decent sound card (Gadget Labs 8*24), so by
purchasing the Digi001, I'd be buying another sound card with it.
- I'm waiting for Vegas Audio to improve on some things before I
purchase that.
- $380 for Vegas vs. $800 for PT is a consideration.
- Working with PT is a plus if I decide to seek a part time job in a
local studio.

Ugh! I'm still undecided! I'll just have to be patient and see where
each one heads.

I DID buy the pro tools digi001 and wasnt very happy w it honestly. I
had to reconfigure my whole system jsut to meet their requirements,
and then once i did, i still received errors. Your system must be
setup only for recording w their software. nothing else. Its meant
for a workhorse for recording, which is great, if i was happy w it.
The layout was nice, controls ok. Automation and real faders, great,
but editing doesnt impress me much. Plus, plug-ins for pro tools are
outrageous. most are same amount as the digi 001 itself, or jsut a
touch cheaper. I yhave worked with many recording softwares, and jsut
keep coming back to sonic foundry stuff. Granted, I havent done tons
of work on Vegas yet, but i own acid and sound forge, and sound forge
is impossible to beat for wave editing in my opinion. Pro tools has
alot of talk about it, but set me back up w sonic foundry stuff and
Ill be a happy man.

I have had the opportunity to work in Nuendo (v 1.02), and I must
confess, as an avid Vegas fan, I am now totally absolutely hooked on
Steinbergs new fare. Yes, its 3 times the money, but it makes a PC
behave like a Mac. That is saying something! I am disappointed with
the new versions of Vegas. They are flaky, and that makes me nervous.
