Pre compose or nesting query

Rory Cooper wrote on 8/31/2008, 10:57 PM
To achieve certain results you have to nest in Vegas

For ex. I have text tilted in 3d to a vanish point not hectic and you are looking at the text from the bottom so the text is above you
If I ad light rays the rays are flattened along the surface so I have to nest the project and call the project in again apply fx now the rays run down

AE is exactly the same but you can precompose right their and bomb the precomposite track on the timeline without leaving AE

Sooo is their anyway I can click on two or three tracks pre compose or nest them in Vegas right there and then
Would be very very nice

Thanks
Rory

You can RENDER to a NEW TRACK or open another instance of VEGAS and bring the first project in as an element.

But you can't do like AE does.

Thanks DaveT2

It’s a pity . the render to a new track wont have the transparency or alpha channel or have I missed something ?

Eh? In render to New Track you get a bunch of templates to utilize. Wont one of these retain the ALPHA transparent channel?

Out of my comfort zone here . . .

if you render avi uncompressed you can preserve the alpha. (I believe quicktime animation can do this too)

You can achieve something similar by launching a 2nd instance of Vegas, copying the video on those tracks, pasting them on the timeline in the new instance of Vegas, and nesting that project in your original instance of Vegas.

A bit convoluted, but at least you won't have to render just apply effects in the way that you want.

Yes, Quicktime PNG "millions of colors +" will give you the alpha channel. You do have to set the track motion setting on the track to alpha source to get the benefits though. At least that's what happened for me today as I did this for the first time in Vegas as I am still new to the software.

You guys are right its obvious just choose a render format that retains the alpha channel

But I am not clear on Jive’s suggestion if I copy the tracks over into a new instance of Vegas then I will have two instances of Vegas open with the same problem
I am just trying to visualise the process and it doesn’t add up

Jive could you please just clarify you suggestion

Thanks guys

To emulate the Precomposition of AE you need to have your Precomp as another project.

Hence opening two projects and nesting one inside the other, the nested project being the precomp.
