Vegas hangs after render

Hello, I just reinstalled my system from scratch hoping it would fix the numerous issues I have with Vegas 8, but it does not seem to help.

Pretty often when I render a file, it will get stuck at 100%, the Elapsed time counter continues to display time, but there is no close button on the render window. I have to kill Vegas. This is on a fresh copy of Windows XP...
Any ideas ?

I have no idea about this issue.
However, you can use this diagnostics tool and send the snapshot to SCS.

Some of us have been experiencing render hangs with Vegas 8. I have resorted to rendering small sections as a workaround until Sony fixes this.

Sometimes you just have to be patient, especially with mpeg renders.
It says 100%, but you need to wait, sometimes quite a while, for it to finish what it is doing.

yeah, but this is for small wav files... Already waited 1 hour... This is not normal...

No, it's not.
Can you post more details -- your project settings, source file parameters, render settings?

I have had the same problem at various times. I found that disabling dual screen modes in XP helped, although it means I can not work with dual screens. I've been rendering my work on a domestic out of the box Dell rather than my workstation because it is that unreliable. I get a successful render about 90% of the time on the Dell, but it is prone to bluescreening.

You know what, I am going to ask Sony for a free upgrade to Vegas 9 when it comes out, because I am pretty sure I have not got my money's worth out of Vegas 8. I seem to have spent at least 40% of my time trying to fix problems with it.

Didn't Sony say at NAB that it was going to be a free update anyway?

But it seems to me if you've spent 40% of your time trying to fix problems there are some other issues going on.

The footage comes from a Canon GL1 cam, normal dv.
Project settings set to default. I just render a wav, stereo 48khz and it stays at 100%...
