Vegas & Canon XHA1

Looking to see if anyone is using the XHA1 with Vegas. I'm having trouble capturing video. I've used both the DV & HDV modes. Following the steps listed in the help manual it seems that the application doesn't see the camera which I have connected via the Firewire port on the desktop. I configured Vegas to use the external capture application. But it just hangs up.

I did check my device manager and it seems that camera is not recognized. I did a manual install but it couldn't find the device.. There is no CD with the camera to down load any drivers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As this is a pro/prosumer camcorder you might get more response over in the Vegas Pro forum....

If the camera isn't showing up in device manager, the problem is with Windows not recognising it, not Vegas. From memory, DV camcorders show up in the 'imaging devices' section in XP, not sure about HDV.

Is this Windows XP or Vista (and what service pack level - SP1/SP2/SP3) ?

A few thoughts...

Has anything worked on that Firewire port before ?
Have you tried a different Firewire cable ?
Is the camera in playback (VCR) mode ?
Have you tried plugging it in 'hot' (powered up and in playback mode) ?

Note: the external capture app (vidcap) is for DV only, HDV capture is integrated into the main Vegas application.

I'll take this subject to another forum as this is not a Vegas issues.

I've got Vegas loaded on my desktop Vista Pro Sp3. I did trace back to the device driver where it doesn't recognize my camera. It's not the cable or the 1394 port that is the issue.

I've got a laptop running Vista Home Sp3. Using the same cables and camera in the device manager I see AV/C Tape Device listed under Sound, Video, & Game Controller and Canon DV Camcorder under Images in different configurations whether I'm using HDV or DV in Ext Control or VCR playback. I never see this the desktop.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got to get this figure this out for sure.
