Will Vegas 8 upgrade work on xp64bit

I am in a pickle, everything I use is 64bit program my Cakewalk Sonar, my soft synths and so on. I use a Yamaha i88x external soundcard microphone preamp and it works on Xp Pro 64 bit. I have been looking forward to the new 64 bit version of Vegas 8, but there is no word if it will work with XP pro 64 bit.
Do you know if the new version coming out in Sept will work with XP Pro 64

Supposedly x64 XP Pro users like myself are said to be out of luck when 64bit Vegas is released.

SCS has been very good about making it's software backwards compatible so I'm of the mind that I'll wait and see if whether it will install and run on x64 XP Pro or not.

I would also research and see if all your equipment is compatible with Vista 64Bit just in case...The 64Bit of Vista is far more stable than the current XP 64Bit by far....

It has been clearly stated by Sony that XP64 will not be supported with Vegas 64, but whether it will work or not is another question which won't be answered until it comes out and somebody tries it.

I wouldn't do anything right now until vegas64 is out and some experiments are done. While you're waiting, you can always do a bit of research to see if your sound card and such will work with Vista in case you have to upgrade.

I haven't had a single BSOD running x64 XP Pro in the two years I have been running it daily. My experience with Vista initially is it's a resource hog and doesn't bring anything more to the table than what 64bit XP Pro already has - and it does so with less overhead.

Well I had Vista Premium 64 bit on my computer and bought a copy of Xp Pro 64 bit instead, it is a problem with my sound card, I have a Yamaha i88x which will run on Xp 64 but not Vista 64bit. I had bought a Presonus FP10 that has Vista drivers, but the quality of the Yamaha converters and preamps just dramatically better. I have been pulling my hair out about this, anyway I sold the Presonus at a loss and if I cannot use Sony with 64 bit because it doesn't support my OS then it is very disappointing

The thing about things being "not supported" is that the manufacturers usually mean they won't provide support and they won't say whether it runs or not on the unsupported OS. It sometimes has nothing to do with reality, so the best thing to do is to just wait and let other guinea pigs sort it out first. In the meantime, 32-bit Vegas 8 runs on XP 64.

Future 64-bit development will be for Vista64 so that's why people recommend moving in that direction, but you don't need to be the person who opens a vein by being on the bleeding edge. Just wait.

Hi,

I copy everything Cliff said. I have been running XP x64 now for 9 months, it runs rock solid on my quad core. No BSOD screens. And is blindingly fast together with Vegas.

The ONLY reason why I migh (or must) consider to downgrade to Vista (64bit) is - if VP8 64bit will NOT run on XP x64. I will be certainly one the guinea pigs that will test it.

VP8.0b runs great on XP x64. The only thing that I had to let go is the media manager. That might be the case alse with the upcoming 64 bit Vegas. But I could live with it. We will see...

I run XP64 and Vista64 and Vista64 is not a resource hog at all.

Its beautiful. On the surface a casual user won't notice much, they may even think XP is better. However, Vista actually appropriately uses all of your RAM unlike XP64 which only sort of does (I have 8gb). Processing works better. Its very stable.

The Vista hating needs to stop, its great. I just have a few audio hardwares that need Vista drivers and then I'll completely switch.

"The Vista hating needs to stop,"
Actually... it's not really hate but rather pure fiction fear of the UNKNOWN. At least 2/3 of the whiners have never even used it.

frankly, of all the vista 64 owners I know (quite a few now), I have only heard ONE voice displeasure.

I agree. I mean the real awesomeness of it is behind the scenes. Self cleaning registry and stuff like that aren't things anyone will see.

I have one piece of audio hardware I have to use that doesn't have Vista drivers.

Microsoft's security features and constant messages get annoying, but Google and a registry hack can turn them off. I can hardly blame Microsoft for putting those features in though because of all the retards who click obviously bad links and emails with silly attachements and install spyware laden programs and then complain that somehow Microsoft's OS's are bad.

Vista starts fast and is near impossible to crash and you can leave it running indefinitely. I run huge After Effects CS3 projects concurrently with Photoshop and Vegas and never have one problem.

I should note, I have no Vista experience prior to service pack 1. So if you used Vista before that and it was terrible...well...try it again, because while XP is cool its definitely no Vista.

I'm beginning to warm up to the idea of Vista x64 as I'm about to do a hardware upgrade of a new mobo and quad core phenom to my desktop. Still not sure though.

Any comments on running x64 Vista on a laptop? I have a Dell D620 Latitude with 4GB of RAM with an Intel T7200 2.0Ghz Core2Cuo for location editing

How did you get VP8.0 to install under x64? When I tried it, the installation routine stopped midway and said I had the wrong operating system? Thanx.
