Subject:ACID Pro 5 on Vista?

Hi,

Anyone tried ACID Pro 5 on Vista (Home Premium)? What about Sound Forge 8? I really would like to use these progams on my new Vista machine without having to upgrade, if possible.

Thanks!
Frank

I am not sure about SF8, but if you search the Acid forum,I believe somebody posted on how to install Acid 5 to work in Vista. It was a while back, 3-4 mos ago,I think?

Good luck,

luces

Hey Frank...I probably can't help you too much with AP5, but I do have AP6 working on Vista. Took some figuring to get it working...the biggest problem was Media Manager. Now that there is a Vista-capable version of MM (because of Vegas Pro 8), that solves the problem for AP6, but I'm not sure it will work for AP5 (and I have my doubts.).

I suspect that you'll need to forget about MM under Vista with AP5, because (as I recall) AP5 uses a version of the SQL desktop engine (MSDE) that you can't actually run on Vista. But I suspect that you'll be able to run AP5 without it.

You may need to run AP5 in Administrator mode - which is what I needed to do with AP6 until I figured out what had to change with Windows Registry permissions to make it run in normal user mode (I had to give my user ID full control of all keys within the "Sony Media Software" node). If you're not comfortable working with the registry - and you should be very careful about that anyway - then the simplest thing would be to install AP5, then modify the startup shortcut's Compatibility properties, enabling the Run this program as an administrator checkbox. You'll get the UAC prompt whenever you launch AP, but at least it should work...

Good luck!.......................................Pat

I have a new box with vista ultimate 32.
So just installed 6.0 and am getting the error msg about media manager. Is there a way to get media manager working? How and where can i get this MM via vegas pro 8 that you mention above?
Acid works but I'd like to either get rid of the msg or install MM for my vista.
thanks

Download Vegas 8 trial and install it along with the new media manager.Open AP6 and most likely, no error. Then go to AP6 properties ,disable media manager and i guess u r done. U may need need to first uninstall AP6 ,then install vegas8 ,then reinstall aP6. Either way it s going to work, i have tried it on vista too. I'm not sure though ,if u want to keep Vegas8's media manager what will happen when the trial expires. Also as said b4, always run as admin the soft.
Ps: even if u dont get it to work the particular error msg is not harmful to u,don't take it personally. Oh and btw ,what i said in the " Congratulations Sony!!!! You've done it!!!" thread 'bout code name Windows 7 coming and Acid is true. Windows 7 beta is out since the start of this year and my guess is next February or the most next Easter will hit the stores replacing the somehow "user-rejected" recource hog Vista OS. In any experienced user's sense Vista 's gonna have the same luck as Windows Millenium so it's going to be fun seeing the Sony developers a few months after the Vista compatible AP7's release to have a brand new and currently incompatible DAW -lol lol. Especially when this new OS contains the new WinFS file system which was supposed to be included in Vista but didnt make it prior to not being ready yet as stated from Microsoft. I just pray i'm wrong .And Sony PCH Peter prolly, as much helpful as may be, will deny to let us know or even he doesn't know too what's really cooking on this subject. Cheers

grainerr...sorry, been away for a couple of weeks so I didn't respond. Agree with tascolas...download the Vegas 8 trial and you'll get the new vista-capable Media Manager. Works like a charm for me.

thanks for that Patrick and tascolas
after all that I ended up uninstalling MM and no longer get the error msg. I have gotten along without MM in 5.0 and until they release 7.0 which should be vista compatible and MM compliant i'm gonna live without it. [passes]

I dont want to go through the uninstall/reinstall procedure for now.
thanks for all your help
